Grist Labs' company ethos appears to be compatible with Proton's. With only about 10 employees currently and an estimated annual revenue under a million dollars [cf. https://compworth.com/company/grist-labs], they may be very receptive to acquisition by Proton.
The costs would probably be trivial at Proton's scale—probably just several million dollars, a pittance compared to the savings to Proton in R&D, the extensive value (note that Grist comprises a spreadsheet, a relational database, and much more, all in one integrated package), and the ROI that marrying it into Proton's suite would entail from the avalanche of conversions from Google Workspace defectors.
