Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

Dear Proton Mail Product Team,
Thank you for continuing to deliver a secure and privacy-respecting communication platform. As a dedicated Proton Mail user, I appreciate the progress you’ve made with encrypted email, calendar, and multi-account support.
I’d like to request a feature that would significantly improve the Proton Mail app’s functionality: support for adding and managing external email and calendar accounts such as Gmail, Outlook, Microsoft 365, Yahoo, and others.
This feature would allow users to:
• Access and manage all email communication from a single, secure Proton Mail interface
• View and manage multiple calendars in one place, simplifying scheduling and planning
• Reduce reliance on third-party apps and improve overall workflow efficiencyI understand Proton’s focus on privacy and security may introduce challenges with integrating external providers. However, even basic read-only support for external email and calendar accounts would make Proton Mail much more versatile as a central communication hub.
Many users today rely on multiple providers for work and personal communication. Giving us the ability to consolidate that into Proton Mail would be a meaningful step forward and would likely encourage wider adoption of your services.
Thank you for your time and for continuing to build a product that puts user privacy first.

Absolutely agree with this request - the timing couldn't be better for Proton to prioritise a collaborative office suite.
The landscape has fundamentally shifted. With the US Cloud Act in place and American companies increasingly disregarding GDPR compliance, our data simply isn't safe on US-based platforms anymore. We're seeing a growing exodus of privacy-conscious users seeking alternatives, and this trend is only accelerating.
Whilst Nextcloud remains the gold standard for self-hosted collaborative document editing, the reality is that it's far too complex for the average user to set up and maintain. However, if Proton could offer Nextcloud integration directly alongside ProtonDrive - or alternatively implement something like CollaboraOnline as the productivity component - it would be an absolute game-changer.
There's a genuine market opportunity here that's expanding daily. It's not just the security-focused crowd anymore; ordinary Europeans are beginning to understand that entrusting their data to US services is no longer viable. Proton is perfectly positioned to capture this market with a user-friendly, complete office experience that actually respects user privacy.
The feature request mentions preventing downloads/copying, which aligns perfectly with European data protection principles. If Proton could deliver Google Workspace functionality with true zero-knowledge encryption and proper access controls, they'd have a winning formula.
This really should be a top priority.
