    I'm not sure that regional settings on the client are the right way to go, both for privacy reasons and because a user might need to use a different client with unfamiliar settings from time to time.

    On the other hand, having the ability to set "my" default date and time format (and timezone, while we're at it) in my account settings would be a big win. (And yes, ISO 8601 should definitely be an option...)

    There are lots of potential problems with automatic time zone detection, including privacy issues and of course VPNs that change your apparent location. On the other hand, the ability to set "my default time zone" in my account settings and always use that, seems like basic essential functionality.
