Show link URL on hover
Applies to desktop app as well

I found the Proton feature, "Confirm Link URLs".
That is not a good substitute to being able to see the URL before clicking.
The goal here is to consistently avoid the barrage of phishing URLs. By showing the URL only after clicking, you train people that they NEED to click on links, even if they suspect them to be phishing, to even find out if they were phishing links.
So everyone's security now relies on whether that setting is checked, on that day, for that device, via that app.
Any settings mishap that results in that checkbox changing state, results in that person starting to instantly follow links without knowing that would happen.
Whereas a simple tooltip on hover does not require interacting with the link to verify the link.
It's also how employees are trained to verify links at work. Having your email application verify differently will muddy that training, because at work they check for display on hover, but at home they click.
People are trying to tell you how important this is. Please listen!
I just began evaluating a full migration from GMail to Proton. For me, this one issue by itself means the desktop app is unusable and I will only use web access.

This is how I discern what is a phishing email and what is legit. Right now, I have to right click, "copy link," and put it in a text doc to see what it is. Please add this; thank you!

To help decide whether to click on a link in a mail, it is necessary to show the url behind the link. For a company focussing on security a MUST, imho.

Please, please please.
Outlook does this. We really should be able to see where an email link is taking us before we click on it. Copying it and pasting it is the only way to do this in Proton Mail. It is a terrible security flaw IMO.

This has become standard for most apps. Dangerous to not have an idea of where a link would target destination.

I was amazed and dismayed to discover that the 'show actual link on hover' over links in incoming emails wasn't a feature of the Protonmail Windows client. Until this is added, your product cannot justifiably claim it has good security; this is a *hole* !!! Checking links is a key aspect of determining whether an email is legitimate. Please fix ASAP

Standard feature on Outlook, increasingly important to detect phishing.

If not hover, a status bar would be a welcome alternative. The click and confirm is a hassle, but my current setting.

I agree with previous commenters, definitely something that would increase security with little effort.

Do the Proton devs just blindly click links in emails? How is this not more of a priority?!?

This is a must have from a security perspective. While currently the confirmation popup when clicking URL links in emails technically does allow some visibility, from a usability perspective it would be best to include the display URL on hover capability. Most major mail clients include this functionality, so the majority of Proton user base that care about previewing URLs is likely used to using the hover feature by now.

I can't think of any reason not to show the url on hover. It's the first and upmost security step for links in e-mails.

In these days of scams, how can I ever click on a link in an email without knowing where it is going. I would flag this as a serious security problem/bug.

This is a massive issue for me security wise. I currently have to copy the links in emails to view them. This is a problem because it poses the risk of accidentally opening them, when they could be malicious.
