Disable categories
Option to remove the feature described below. Categories are useless. Labels already exist
Category view

You can disabled categories:
On mobile you can disable them in Settings → Mailbox Preferences → Categories → Disable
On web: All Settings → Messages and composing → Email Categories → Disable

I can understand this request. Automatic categories may be useful for some people, but they shouldn’t replace the control users already have with labels and filters. A simple toggle to disable Category view would be ideal—let people choose whether they want Proton to organize their inbox automatically or keep their own system. The roadmap says Category view was designed to organize promotions, updates, newsletters, and more, so an opt-out would make the feature much more flexible.

How do I disable this? I hate this. It's just feature bloat and not needed. We have labels. "Your" labels are not my labels or how I think when organizing my inbox. ANd i don't need the clutter on the top navigation bar. It's already a complex UI. Leave what's working well alone. And give you paying customers options rather than forcing features on them. What you're doing is the opposite of good product management.

This feature just showed up for me today. Very annoying. This nonsense is one of the reasons I left Gmail and came to Proton in the first place. Immediately clicked the disable button in the modal popup (I also do not like modals and popups in my email). Experience has taught me that these kinds of categories often make the problem worse because you don't actually manage your email, it just becomes more of a monster that you ignore. My guess is that most Proton users are more sophisticated, so this kind of feature is an insult to those of us that choose to use Proton products.

On mobile, at least, you can disable this. It's not under Mailbox Preferences, where you might expect to find it.
Settings → App Customizations → Email Categories, toggle Categories

Unwanted and, having established my own labels, incredibly confusing. I dropped this when using gmail, bit can't seem to remove this twaddle in Protonmail.

It was really frustrating this morning to wake up and find the unprofessionalism of Proton dropping this category rubbish on my inbox without warning or consent.
This is my primary production email. I do not expect kids to be pushing out "sneak peak" into my inbox messing up with my work flow with silly childish colourful tags/categories which had absolutely no use to me whatsoever. The fact you did this without providing a switch to turn it off, and you did it in the "on-state" by default rather than informing existing users and letting them turn it on if they wanted to test it. It was inaccurate in half of the emails anyway.
I had already cancelled the VPN, AI and password management to move to more professional services, I now see I have to do the same with my email. Something that should just remain simple but secure, you manage to completely ****-it-up.
