Sync the Protonmail contacts with the phone address book (contacts app) and vice versa.

A paid-for email service in 2025 should allow access to all data from a smartphone.
I maintain a Nextcloud instance on a server at my house for this purpose, I just have to remember to manually sync between Nextcloud <--> Proton periodically. Totally a pain.

What puzzles me is Proton's refusal to even engage a discussion on the issue. It's so ******* arrogant!
Stonewalling is basically toxic behavior, and usually attributed to the very mega-corporations they purport to differentiate from.
I think the only real reason people are sticking to them is because there are no other serious contenders (except maybe kSuite, but they also lack basic email functionalities like snooze or schedule send).
Proton is in a situation of de facto email service monopoly in the open source space. Sadly, they're acting like one.

This is a critical feature that is preventing me from fully dedicating myself in Proton. Whichever email client you use needs access to your contacts so you can recognize emails, however if you loose your device, you need the ability to restore your contacts from your mail client back to the default phone contact app. Plus, each day we adjust and add contacts to our phone that we want saved and synced right away. If someone new emails me, I want to be able to save that contact information both in Proton and on my phone.
Until Proton can frequently sync its services with my phone's on-device contacts list, I can't leave gmail, making it pointless to fully switch to Proton.

This will only work for some of us if they provide the option to format the addresses the way we do in our home country. I will not use contacts until I can get the standard United States address format. I know some people in the UK who feel the same.

Cannot effectively de-Google without this.

The tradeoff between having the contact information outside the proton managed high security & privacy environment vs. practical usability and adoption is really in favor of having some information in the android / iphone data world, too.
An amazing feature would be if it were configurable which fields are synced over into Android and which
e.g. treating the notes field as proton only "private notes" or having emergency contact information only in proton could be nice. Or, the street address for that matter.

Critical!
Can't wait for it.
Hurry up! -

This is critical and was rather surprised it didn't exist given how advanced the rest of Proton's offerings are.

This is essential for all of us who want to securely de-Google. I'm planning on moving to GrapheneOS as soon as I can find a workaround for 1 app (Dexcom G7) but during my testing Contacts was a major hole in Proton offerings.

Agree with anyone else here, this feature is essential to create consistency within the Proton product family. Your security is as good as your weakest link. Please incorporate this, thank you!

Astonishing it's 2025, a company that bases itself with privacy and productivity ecosystem, and yet still does not have a completed Contacts App that can sync. Forcing it's users to use 3rd party non-privacy apps.
This should not be planned still. I know plenty of people who are holding out moving to Proton due to this very feature.
Ridiculous. -

Promised for FIVE years now. I'm a very patient man, but that is stretching it.
Forcing users to sync contacts and calendars to other services (Google...) beats the effort of investing in data protection and privacy! -

Trying to move away from google and this is one of the obstacles preventing me from completely leaving google for proton. Would like to see this implemented.

I've been a paying Proton user for over 3 years, and am waiting semi-patiently for this feature to come out. Would be really nice to sync contacts with my smartphone and have a Contacts specific app that is more robust and allows for full contact management across platforms and devices. C'mon Proton! What's taking so long?? Thanks in advance for rolling this one out!

I don't even need synching with the native apps! I just need a real contacts app. Or put the contacts button at the top of the mail app! Let me group contacts that don't have email addresses. Let me search for contacts. Please.

Please make this an automated bidrectional sync 😀👍 Your Google Import does a great job. Now you just need to add its compliment: Google Contact Sync (automated!)
