I agree, it's a mystery why an otherwise excellent provider can continue to ignore the need for a good solution to this vital element of their central product.
Before widening the scope of their services in all sorts of directions, they should get their act together on the home front. Diversifying by buying notes and other apps may be ****, but does little for customer satisfaction. Go, Proton!Hannes supported this idea ·

ProtonMail offers encrypted contacts for both web and mobile applications (https://protonmail.com/blog/encrypted-contacts-manager/). Calendar and note functionality will be released in the future.

Fair enough, in the web GUI, contacts are easy to access. But way too complicated in Android: Open Mail, open Settings, scroll down to More... In the Mail beta, even that option is gone...
Easiest would be to provide a Contacts home screen shortcut -

Promised for FIVE years now. I'm a very patient man, but that is stretching it.
Forcing users to sync contacts and calendars to other services (Google...) beats the effort of investing in data protection and privacy!
