Block sender
It would be great to be able to block certain email addresses from being able to send you emails. Not just a filter to go to “spam” but being able to actually block the sender totally

I'd like to ban an email address from sending me mail. Maybe send them a bounce mesg.

I want to block someone, not a spam address. I'm really tired of being bothered by them. I want them to receive an email every time they contact me that tells them, "You've been blocked" so they stop bothering me

I am a new paying customer and I already love Protonmail.
However, I am really missing this feature of "ignoring" a specific email-address / domain. It's really annoying to get messages from a specific email account, which is just spam. I hit the "unsubscribe" link many times, but it doesn't change anything.
I just want to get rid of these annoying spammers. I don't want them in my spam folder. The PM-user should be able to flag this specific email-address as "ignored" and you will not get any messages from this email again (in your whole lifetime :p). Don't put it in the spam folder. I really want to ignore it. I don't want to see this email-address ever again.

Essential. Spam comes up in 'All Mail', fair enough. But there are domains I don't want ever to hear from. So send to blacklist immediately. Essential!!

Yes, a pet peeve of any mail delivery service, even old fashioned USPS is the inability of the intended receiver to approve or deny delivery. True privacy also means preventing someone from contacting you.

Well, spam filtering is nice, but this is different.
I do want blacklisted users to get a system-generated undeliverable message.
This would be very useful. Definitely doable. -

why don't you have a blocking option that bounces back spam to the sender across all protonmail accounts so nobody has to put up with the spammers , i'm sure in this day and age with the evolution of algorithms and machine learning / A I as soon as an email address is blocked by a user you could develop a process that flags a spammers address for everyone

I just came to the support section to ask for the same thing. I am getting spam from local scammers trying to send me fake dating profiles. It goes into the spam folder but that isn't enough.
I would like the ability to make these scam and spam email appear undeliverable.
As we all know, if you click on unsubscribe links all you do is prove to the spammers that you're getting their spam. Just deleting these emails for years is not a solution. Ideally, they should get reflected to them so they have to pay a price for sending scam/spam emails.
Thanks a lot for protonmail! It is a great service.

I found that the best way is to go into filters within your settings. You can set specific emails to go straight into trash. I also made sure to check off that the email address are "Automatically read" so it technically just disappears! I know it's annoying that the emails will still be in your trash but atleast they aren't in the spam folder- which I would check frequently as sometimes important e-mails end up there. I never check my trash folder. I hope Protonmail comes out with an actual block feature sooner than later... not sure why it isn't an option.

To block fully concrete email adress - not only move to spam. Don't allow to the concrete email adress write you a email.

Also if a certain number of different Proton users (say 3 or 5) mark any sender as Spam, that it is universally blocked, so that all of us are protected from that sender. In this way we will weed out a lot of spam for all users.

For now, you can use contact groups & a sieve filter to replicate such a feature:
1. Go to the contacts page (https://mail.protonmail.com/contacts) and create a group called "Blocked".
2. Add any contacts/addresses you want to block to the group.
3. Go to Settings -> Filters (https://mail.protonmail.com/filters)
4. Click on "Add Sieve Filter", right next to the Add Filter button.
5. Paste the following code snippet to the pop-up:require ["envelope", "extlists"];
if envelope :list "From" ":addrbook:personal?label=blocked"
{
discard;
}This snippet discards (deletes) mails coming from contacts that are in the "Blocked" group.
6. Click on the "Save" button.
