Hide 'Spam' and 'Trash' from 'All Mail' folder.
Currently the All Mail folder displays trashed and spam emails. Since this is a good folder for getting good overview of all mails (including those in potentially many folders) some users (like me) use it a lot. It can be very disconcerting to see trash and spam in there, and defeats the purpose of spam and trash.
Thanks to your collective feedback, Spam and Trash emails are now excluded from the All Mail folder. You can control this behavior from Settings > Messages and composing > Exclude Spam/Trash from All mail.

I would like to see an option to not see spam or deleted. I don't use archiving, but I could see that being another need case.

I would add Trash and Spam to this as it is really tricky.

+1 vote also for Anonymous's comment on excluding them from search results as well. If I really needed to look at my junk/deleted emails I would use advanced search. I do not want deleted/spam cluttering up my searches or inbox anywhere.

As there are people who would want this to work various ways, I strongly feel there should be toggles (possibly in Settings) for whether All Mail includes Spam, Trash, Archived, and/or Sent Mail. I don't think too many people will mind if Spam and Trash are excluded by default, as anyone wishing to include those in their scan will be perfectly able to open them manually on the rare occasions it is relevant.
Yes, I get that the definition of "All" is pretty absolute, the difference is that the definition of "mail" Is somewhat mutable. Most people don't consider letters they have thrown away and circulars that come despite their being on anti-junk mail lists to be "Mail", definitely not when they have been safely tucked away in the trash or recycling, and the mindset carries over. Thus, the current results in All Mail aren't what many people are expecting to see when they open it. The fact that many people adapt to it doesn't make it any better of a setup.

Completely agree with this suggestion. It's already been enough of a waste of time regularly cleaning up the All mail folder but recently it seems it does not even work with Thunderbird. It's gotten to the point where I'm considered stopping my subscription and use something else.

yes this is terrible and makes deleting mail a pain.
search should also NOT show trash by default. -

I agree this is a no brainer.

Guys any update on this? I hate the spam folder populating like I have 20x unread emails when they are all junk. Please make a toggle to not show spam number or something. It's really not that hard to do and it adds a lot of value.

Also, when you search for mails, please exclude trash. If trash needs to be searched, should be a separate action

wont pay for the service until you filter out junk mail from my inbox.

i would also like a toggle to control the inclusion of trash in my all mail view, as well as a toggle for archived messages in all mail.

This should at least be a setting:
"Show your trashed mail (that you never wanted to see anymore) in the All Mail view, so that you get totally confused?"
Really though, there should at least be a setting to turn off showing trashed mail in the all-mail view. If you could also be more granular, that'd be cool, but the trash would be the most important thing.

I totally agree. It's kinda annoying when searching only to realize you're searching in trash!

There are at least 2 scenarios how this could be resolved.
1) Possibility to exclude specific folders from "All mail" (trash, spam, archive, etc.).
2) Possibility to put default folders under custom ones.Lack of this feature is really annoying for me. For example, I have 2 additional folders which contain forwarded mails from my other email providers which I don't want to mix with my default inbox.
Looks something like this:
- Inbox (primary protonmail inbox)
- Folder1 (contains mails forwarded from email X)
- Folder2 (contains mails forwarded from email Y)There are no possibility to check all these folders together without showing trashed, spam, archived mails.
Instead, I need to check each folder separately. -

Indeed. And also not show content from 'archive' folder.

This is quite a disconcerting way ALL MAIL works. Please provide options to toggle ALL MAIL to include (I) SPAM (Ii) TRASH and (iii) DELETED emails.

This should be a user option. Putting EVERYTHING into the ALL MAIL folder is a deal breaker for me. I would end up with thousands of mails there. Just not well thought out. I changed to a different client that is able to be configured the way I want it, not the way the supplier THINKS it should be.

Agreed. And I'd say this goes for conversations, and search (spam specifically in this case) too.
