Allow Proton Mail to have automatic sync and push notifications on Android without Google Services Framework
Proton's dependence on a platform from the world's worst offender of corporate surveillance is obviously not ideal. The problem of keeping an app alive in the background without GSF has a simple fix, which is to establish a permanent one-line notification. This is done by Signal, K9-mail, and others.
I just switched my domain's email provider to Proton from a competitor in Switzerland to bring all my paid services under the Proton umbrella as a result of the merging of Proton's plans and the rebranding. As an unexpected result, I will be manually visiting the Proton Mail app and pulling to refresh dozens of times a day until this feature is implemented.
Thank you
Jay

This needs more attention. Posted in 2022 without any traction, we're now in 2025 with a "privacy" platform requiring google services for notifications. Its silly.
