I completely agree with your point. One of the main reasons I chose Proton was the clean, distraction-free interface and the strong focus on privacy. Even subtle prompts like “Get Proton Family” can feel like ads when you’re intentionally paying to avoid that experience. I’d honestly be fine with this becoming an optional paid feature, as long as users can fully hide promotions if they want. Privacy-first products should also feel calm and neutral by default. That philosophy is something I also appreciate in other tools I use, like https://stape.io/fr where monetization doesn’t interfere with usability or trust.

This feature already exists
You can disable in app advertisements in the settings. Go to Application Notifications on the website and disable "In-app notifications".
This won't disable push notification despite the vague wording.

Another dissatisfied subscriber who has been spammed (in Pass) with an advert for something I don't need.

If you pay for a service you should not be subject to an add campaign. I thought coming to Proton would fix that, bu I was wrong. Please remove all adds from paid subscribers.

I switched to proton mail this month to get away from Google's advertising specifically. I've received 10 promotional emails (including one "limited time offer") & have two upgrade buttons on the mail interface. This is kind of ridiculous. Will be finding a new service unless this is fixed.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Even Google, Microsoft, DropBox etc are less intrusive with their upgrade ads. An occasional and gentle hint for free accounts would be fine, and a VERY occasional hint (with an opt-out option) for paid users would be reasonable too. But forcing this colourful shiny button onto my inbox, even when I'm paying? And making the default page for my settings menu a full-screen ad? That is completely ridiculous! Fix this Proton!

I've said this before - Proton are utterly wasting their time promoting a service that I can not use. They are just annoying me.

Paid plans should have no ads at all.

I am a paid subscriber of Proton, and I specifically left Google to get away from intrusive ads and data collection. While my experience with Proton has been good, I've received multiple pop ups for promotional sales, from different Proton apps, across my desktop and phone, and sometimes from the same app a few minutes after I've closed one.

The two other ideas that have mentioned these pop ups have been closed as "completed" and can't be voted on. Is this the kind of behaviour I'm to expect from Proton moving on? Because if so, and such promotional material cannot be opted out of, I'll move to another service when my subscription runs out.

Yes. This is ********! I'm buying from you already what I need. I would understand an occasional ad (maybe there really is something you're selling that will make my life better). But if I have already made the decision that I don't want a certain product of yours, why do I have to keep looking at the advertisement for it?

It is annoying when I am already paying for unlimited when I don't need a group plan but it is not deal breaking for me contra the others sycophants(who likely don't know the amount of work that is needed to create/run a self hosted service of comparable quality and privacy/security).

to jump to Proton VPN of all places. Like, I already have Unlimited and don't need a group plan, are you really expecting me to buy more?

The Proton VPN app created an extra window for advertising Proton Duo. The main Proton VPN window now has a basket button which opens that Proton Duo advert window.

Hovering over the basket shows 'Upgrade to Duo'. I'm already upgraded to Proton Unlimited.
So you just asked an upgraded user to upgrade again.

Please remove these or give users an option to hide your marketing. I don't want Proton Duo but your VPN app is now shoving your marketing in my face.

If you're going to add buttons and adverts like that, at least give users an option to never see them (new or old). Disappointing.

Someone merged my request with this other one: "'Hide marketing in the Proton VPN app' has been merged into this idea".
My original request suggested adding an option to hide all marketing in the app REGARDLESS of plan. This other request implies that hiding marketing should be available to PAID plans. This merging was incorrect. My idea is not the same.

I agree. This is really annoying that you pay for not having ads and you have... ads. My reaction is always the opposite to what they want to achieve (I don't want to pay anymore!)
