Bridge Desktop App
I know that Protonmail can't integrate with existing desktop mail apps, such as Apple Mail our Outlook, because of the extra passwords. However, I'm not a fan of having to access Protonmail through my browser. Is it possible to build a desktop app with similar functionality to Apple Mail our Outlook (minus the extras, such as calendar integration etc... although that would be nice too)? If you guys build an iphone app, for example, then I don't see it as a huge step to move on to a Mac OS app after that.
With the ProtonMail Bridge, it is possible to use ProtonMail with any Desktop client while still maintaining end-to-end encryption. https://protonmail.com/blog/thunderbird-outlook-encrypted-email/

It would be nice to have a white sheet on how the ProtonMail bridge works.

I use the different account for personal email and contract work. Will the desktop app allow multiple proton emails accounts?
Why I use Outlook is because I can connect multiple accounts to it.

I am in the same position. I also enjoy the security that ProtonMail provides me as a user and the use of the iOS app on my iPhone is great. However, on my Mac its not as seamless when trying to email content directly from other apps which would normally use the Apple Mail app on my system.
Preferably an IMAP solution which I can setup using the inbuilt mail client. Thanks, RJ.

I'm much rather have a dedicated desktop app than use thunderbird or outlook.

I love the idea of ProtonMail, and with the bridge, it works pretty well (albeit somewhat awkwardly) on desktop. On mobile the separate app works well. However this after-the-fact integration effort falls down when it comes to the sharing built into various apps. I can no longer easily email anything from another app on mobile, and have to find less convenient ways to share. I would love for you to partner with Apple to make this a truly seamless integration. Otherwise, I fear I'm headed back to Apple Mail soon.. thanks.

Great to hear, I'll move everything and everybody over to Proton Mail if I can use Postbox. Give me that mail bridge!

Desktop client access is a "must have feature" for any mail service.
In my point of view, the desktop application should allow :
- connection to multiple protonmail account at the same time.
- secure local backup of the entire mailbox (for offline access). If the desktop client is only for protonmail e-mail access, it's fine.
For the others IMAP and POP e-mails, there are other e-mail clients.Having to use a browser is a "tue l'amour" and is the reason why protonmail is not my default e-mail address (and as I can read on your pages, other users think the same).
You have done a great job with protonmail. Thanks a lot !
But since this thread was open in 2015, please consider a serious desktop client in a really, really, close future. -

I would absolutely love a desktop app, even if it's just the webmail repackaged as an Electron app!

I too would like a desktop app. I also agree that I don't need all the extras. Since I don't like logging in via web browser, I use the app on my iPad. That app works well and I like it. So, I would think it would be possible to create a desktop app similar to the iPad app.

I would like the desktop app, but could accept it if they don't or can't build it. But I find the fact that they don't provide updates after saying it was coming a year ago, disturbing. How about an update? We can take the truth.

We're almost half way 2017 by now. Are you already working on it? Is there any perspective? I pay an annual contribution to support you and hope to see some development from your side. If you're not gonna build a desktop application you can just say so we users don't have to wait and hope for such an app. I hope there is at least some good news from your side!

Hi! How's it going with the app for desktop, I'm using windows 10 but should be one for all the usual ones. Earliest 2016 was the message, nows it's 2nd quarter 2017... also a plugin for firefox and for the other browser would be intresting too. Thanks for a good service!

I believe it would be appropriate to (provide) a (Desktop-icon)... and/or app, which would allow a single client to access protonmail directly from the desktop. There's a great possibility that I would be willing to (fund) the process in the near future. Will be in touch!

Please download Rambox and configure an entry for Protonmail. That is a good solution, and there is no need for Protonmail developers to expend precious resources duplicating it.
