"Keep me logged in" option
I really like ProtonMail and use it as my primary mailing service. But one of the most tedious things about it is having to enter the two passwords every time i want to check my e-mail.
ProtonMail keeps logging me out after a few seconds/minutes of closing its tab, so i now have to keep a tab open in order to continuously check my e-mail. Furthermore, i'm using long passwords (in conjunction with Keepass) for more security, so it's not easy to type my passwords every few minutes.
I use ProtonMail on my desktop home computer, so there's no danger from someone having physical access to that PC. There should be a Remember Me/keep me logged in option for cases like this.
I have already communicated this issue to ProtonMail support. They kindly responded that "We applied that feature for security reasons, because many users are using ProtonMail from different devices". I don't really understand what this means, since i'm proposing a system which will keep me logged in on my current desktop computer, the one i,m using right now. Even if it's only for a certain amount of time, px 30 minutes or an hour.
I really hope there's a workaround/solution in the future for this, since ProtonMail is really great and this issue could potentially become a deal-breaker for me.

This is a low-effort, high-impact feature which is REALLY needed in Protonmail.

It's like you're not hearing your users. Really sad. Having to log in every single day is RIDICULOUS.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Even after I have logged in I have to LOG IN AGAIN FOR EACH NEW TAB. I always use multiple tabs when working with any site, and this is just like I wrote – RIDICULOUS. I don't know why you would complicate usability of your site this much. It's not like it's gonna become less secure that way.

I've had it with Protonmail and having to log in EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. There's a reason computers have their own log in screens.

I de facto stopped using protonmail because of this annoyance. Can we please hear any comments from the dev team?

This feature was requested over three years ago, and has not been implemented. Implementation would likely be trivial. I'm concluding that the ProtonMail team has simply decided to not implement it.
So I suggest that they tell us that it won't be implemented, so we can stop waiting for it, and reuse our votes elsewhere. I'm removing my votes as I don't think they are being counted here.

Adding my upvote to this. Having to redo 2FA every time I close the browser keeps me from making a move to PM for everyday communication.

protonmail is not interested in customer requests Needing to fill your password all the time is a real no go.

At a minimum I should be able to have a specific trusted computer not require the 2FA for some amount of time. I could handle having to enter the password every time if I had to.

I agree. I just downloaded PM but must log in every time I open it. The other thing I'm having a problem with after downloading, I can't find it on my PC even when doing a 'search'. I'd like to have it in my taskbar, but haven't found a way to do that. I had to add a desktop shortcut to get to it.

Any update on this? Considering switching over from gmail, but this makes protonmail more of a pain to use regularly. I appreciate logging out being the default, but a "Remember me" checkbox to maintain sessions on machines I trust would be a major UX improvement.

I really want to get rid of GMail (and tried many alternatives in the past four year). All of them failed, either in search, thread-view or being able to "stay-logged-in".
Protonmail comes closest to such a GMail alternative, but the fact that I cannot decide to stay logged in drives me crazy and makes it impossible for me to switch from GMail. I am using GMail on my work laptop (where I just cannot install a PW manager), so entering the PW and 2FA every time I close the tab or reboot is just not practical at all.
I really would like to switch away from GMail and pay for an alternative (like Protonmail), but no service seems to be able to deliver.
So please, Protonmail, implement this feature, and enable me to switch to you.

This is needed. I would switch to PM as my primary email if this was possible. This must be optional (e.g.: "trust this computer" checkbox).
My PC has encrypted hard disk, auto logout after some minutes of inactivity and is always in my office. So why do I need to enter my long password and the 2FA code, while the android app does not need this and is in a phone that could be lost?
