Improve error message when trying to connect to a VPN without NetworkManager.service
I am using Omarchy and when I installed the proton-vpn-gtk-app package and tried connecting, it displayed the generic error message "Something went wrong | An unexpected error has occured". I had to check the logs to figure out that the reason why it was failing was that the NetworkManager.service daemon was not running, because Omarchy uses systemd-networkd. Unless there's a skill issue on my end, I would like to suggest displaying a more clear error message when that happens, so the users quickly know to switch to NetworkManager if they need to use Proton VPN.

Correct Panama Servers IP Ranges Problem
Hello Proton VPN team
My best wishes for you.Recently you launched Panama Servers through of a suggestion that I send you. Now It's working wrong, because when I connect my devices in that servers, the IP address is from USA (usually from Los Angeles) instead Panama, and when I'm using my Panamanian apps automatically is detected that problem and it's impossible to use them.
Usually the IP address range that I can see when I use Panama server is like 51.179.177.21
Please help me with this problem to change to correct Panamanian IP Ranges, cause is so difficult to…

Fix Free Tier Country List: Linux/Config file Shows 10, GUI Apps Display Only 5
This request addresses an inconsistency across ProtonVPN platforms regarding the number of countries available on the Free plan.
Currently:
Linux GUI, CLI, and manual configuration files (OpenVPN/WireGuard) correctly expose 10 free countries, matching what the backend actually provides.
Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and tvOS apps display only 5 countries in their GUI, even though random connecting to all 10 is possible via backend/API.
This creates a confusing discrepancy for users and contradicts the behavior of Linux clients and manual configs.
Proton and web pages also show mixed information (some mention 5, others implicitly reflect 10), further adding to user confusion.

Wireguard Configuration Page
On the Wireguard configuration page, instead of limiting server options for users, how about builtding a filter that would allow users to select the country and city/state. This would allow the list to be generated on demand thus allowing users to select the best server for their use case. This should also minimize the over head of providing the full list and also allowing it to filter out servers that are under maintenance. I think this would be huge imprrovment for usability and could improve customer satisfaction.

Kill switch should stay on with split tunneling
I use Proton VPN at the router level, so my home Wi-Fi is already protected. On my laptop, I’d like to exclude my home network from the VPN using split tunneling without disabling the kill switch.
Right now, having both the router VPN and the laptop VPN running creates a double VPN, which slows down all internet traffic while I’m at home. If split tunneling worked with the kill switch enabled, I could use my home network normally without the slowdown, and when I leave home and connect to any other network, the kill switch would still protect me—no manual…

MacOS app domain split tunneling
Please add domains to split tunneling. I can do it on the browser versions but not desktop (MacOS in my case)

Make Proton VPN with Google Play and F-Droid have different IDs
Currently, after installing the F-Droid version, Google Play tries to download and install an update for Proton VPN every time it searches for and installs updates for user applications, and it fails. It would be better if Google Play did not see the application installed via F-Droid and did not waste traffic, battery life, and did not annoy the user with notifications that the update installation was unsuccessful, but will be repeated later.

Split tunneling with hostnames
In the current tech landscape, the same website can be served through thousands of distinct IPs, changing over time depending on specific criteria or even between deployments. It is humanly exhausting, and frankly unfeasible, to require that we have knowledge of IPs or IP ranges to exclude a specific site from VPN usage.
I firmly believe that it is possible to implement the ability to provide access through hostnames (to enable any level of subdomain as well) without the need for a Herculean effort, even if it is necessary to require the user to use a specific DNS service.

Better support for GNOME's "Background Apps" feature
Not every Linux desktop environment comes out with support for tray icons, the most infamous one for that being GNOME, one of the most popular desktop environments. Since GNOME 44, it focuses on a "Background apps" feature, which uses xdg-desktop-portal to find apps running in the background, with the ability to show them.
Personally, I must say I like that feature, and would like to avoid installing extensions adding back the tray. At the same time, I'd love it if the Proton VPN was able to start minimized on login in my prefered DE, especially since it's possible for other…

More physical server providers in Indonesia
Hello. I just noticed that u guys finally added a new server provider in Indonesia that is actually located in Indonesia. From what i have noticed it looks like the multiple servers are from the same server provider. Is it possible to have more servers from another server provider?
The reason for this is the fact that sometimes our ISPs have a bad link to that server provider which will add latency or make our speed worse. Not only that sometimes that said server provider can have a bad international link to some servers that maybe we want to access.…

Netshield improvements on all platforms
Netshield works well for the most part but it does not block as many ad networks as I would have anticipated. Some mobile games still show ads when being played while Netshield is enabled. I understand the usability aspect of things need to work, it would be beneficial to offer different levels of blocking so we could adjust the service to or liking or standards. This could be done by offering different levels like standard, advanced, adult, family or custom block lists that are supported through the app.

Provide a hostname with A + AAAA records for WireGuard dual-stack support
WireGuard only allows a single endpoint address per peer. This means customers who receive both an IPv4 and IPv6 address cannot use both protocols in their WireGuard configuration — they have to pick one.
If you provided a hostname per server with both an A and AAAA record, WireGuard clients would automatically resolve to whichever protocol is available on their network. This would make dual-stack WireGuard setups work out of the box without requiring customers to register their own domain.2 votes -
Proton VPN Windows client prevents LAN access. Help!
When the Proton VPN Windows client is connected to the VPN, I am unable to access other PCs on the LAN. If PVPN is disconnected, then the PCs are accessible. The setting in the client to allow LAN access is enabled. The PCs on the LAN all have static IP addresses, as do all the networking devices. So, how can LAN resources be made available when PVPN is connected?

Replace location switch timers with advertisements
The way that the free version of Proton VPN currently works (on mobile, at least) is that the locations users can switch to are randomised, and there are timers that force you to wait between switches. Not only is this annoying for users, but from a business perspective, it doesn't seem very profitable. I understand that these features are here to encourage people to buy the premium version, but that leaves the people who don't want a subscription not being profitable at all. My proposal is to replace the timers and randomisation with needing to watch an ad to switch…

Adding an application name instead of the app's location for split tunneling
give us the option to add the executable name instead adding the file location, some applications after they recieve an update the change the path to the exe file and with the current method i have to go back to protonvpn and add the application back to the list every time, if there was a way to for example tell proton to tunnel the app named "discord.exe" through vpn then after the app receives an update and changes the path i still can use the app with vpn without going through the process of adding it again

Adult content filtering
Adding adult content filtering option for NetShield feature would be most welcoming for families or people trying to be free of its negative effects for themselves.
I have to use custom DNS option from outside of Proton VPN which can be risky for privacy concerns.
Filtering out industry that too often is predatory, capitalizing on peoples loneliness or people in desperate situations is a net positive in my opinion for everybody involved.

Allow Kill Switch to block Internet when VPN failed to connect on startup.
The kill switch allows you to connect to the internet if Proton VPN failed to connect (during start-up) or if you manually disconnected.
It would be more secure if it only allowed connections through a VPN.
I personally connected to multiple public hotspots without noticing that my VPN was actually off.
