  1. Diskless Servers on SecureCore

Maybe this is already being done as of recent, but i can't find confirmation anywhere that the infrastucture is configured in such a manner.
Would increase my already high trust witrh Proton, for ProtnVPN, to confirm they run their servers diskless, at least in the SecureCore.

  2. VPN Update - Make More Secure

It is really rather worrying that under Windows and presumably macOS - though not a big problem under Linux - Proton VPN disables itself during updates, leaving the OS to do as it pleases unless Permanent Killswitch is enabled. There are better ways of performing an update.

Ideally, the update would be downloaded and then all networking shut down while the app resets. Only when the app is up and running again would networking be enabled again and the previous VPN connection re-established. If a complete OS reset were required in these conditions, so be it, just warn users to…

  3. Paying for VPN using PayPal without a credit card or bank account

Previously, an subscription could be purchased using PayPal alone, but since the payment has switched to reoccuring, PayPal asks for a credit card or bank account. For some reason, trying to add credits to my proton account also requires a credit card or bank account. Since the whole reason for a VPN is privacy, this requirement seems unreasonable. Please return to providing us a means of purchasing the VPN without a reoccuring payment!

  4. Cheaper prices for countries with worse economies

Now I KNOW this could lead to problems such as the people in the countries with the bad economy selling it for cheaper to the people in other countries but I am sure there is a way to get around this such as using their hardware ID's of MAC adresses

  5. Turn off alternate routing as default

The tyranny of the default. Google, with its free DNS, allows it to know information that it should never be allowed to have, your identity. With fingerprinting, it's trivial to know it's you at the other end of the tunnel, all without knowing the tunnel traffic itself.

With AI active and google's insatiable appetite for your private informatiion, it is poor practice to have alternate routing turned on.

    Turn it off by default.

If a user is being blocked, they can turn it on.

But additionally, slash Google DNS and use Cloudflare primarily as the alternate. Google is disgusting, as EU…

  6. Close Israeli VPN Servers

Proton VPN's homepage states it "is a community supported project with a simple goal: to build a safer internet that also protects civil liberties." Proton has operated the Israeli VPN servers since 2019. However, Israel's government and its private companies has a track record of violating civil liberties of Palestinians and worldwide with hacking software like Pegasus. It is time to be sincere about our commitment to civil liberties: close the Israeli VPN servers.

  7. Tiered VPN plan (with 3 country choices + free servers)

Like ProtonMail, it would likely attract more people who'd choose to pay for a VPN plan (including myself) if there was a tiered VPN pricing plan coupled with the ProtonMail plan (e.g. a ProtonMail + VPN plan with access to 1-3 servers vs. access to all servers available). One that you can pay less per month than the full VPN + Mail plan (7.99€), but more than the ProtonMail stand-alone plan (3.29€). A plan where you get to choose 3 specific country VPN servers that you have access to, instead of a plan that allows all the countries available.

  8. Have a little effect when you copy a port number

When have port forwarding on, you have the listed port, and you can click it to copy it to the clipboard.
It would be nice if you had a little visual effect or something, because it doesn't actually show it actually worked.

  9. Add more features to the free version

Not going to lie I think the free plan has too little stuff. The plus version has way too much more features than free, like it feels unfair. I know it has so little features cause it's free but if you added one or two features from the plus version to the free one this app would be so much better

  10. Profiles - Select Fastest Server by State (or exclude certain States)

Under "Profiles", create the option to connect to the fastest server by state. For instance, when I select the fastest server option, I often get connected to Texas servers, but I don't want to connect to Texas (some states have ID requirement laws for websites). I would like the option to connect to the fastest server in Colorado or some other state.

Alternatively, create the option to exclude certain states from the "Fastest" server profile option.

  12. Dynamic Fastest Servers by Country

To be able to select the Fastest Server by Country is a good thing!

But give it a few minutes and it is actually no longer the Fastest Server anymore yet it remains to appear that it still is!

The Fastest Server (by Country) is still shown as your selection but it never is the fastest when later checking manually.

I see no reason why the Server cannot dynamically change to always be 'the fastest' within the constraints of Country and profile selected?

  13. Provide better control over Server Selection

I would like to be able to build a Profile containing a personalized list of Preferred Servers and a list of Excluded servers.
I have found that certain servers meet my needs better than others.
I mostly prefer US based servers close to my actual location to minimize latency.
I have also found that I DO NOT want to use ANY server located in Virginia (VA), because of VA laws requiring ID verification on certain sites. To that I say - ***** Virginia!
I would therefore like to be able to build an EXCLUDE LIST, which in my case would…

  14. Do NOT put version number into the path (folder name) of executable binaries!

Hardcoding the version number into the path (folder name) of executable binaries in ProtonVPN, Proton Mail Bridge is generally a VERY BAD IDEA and poor software engineering. Every time these programs update themselves, I need to manually update Windows Firewall rules, as - according to Proton Support - it is not possible for their software to update firewall rules automatically...

  16. Android: Split-Tunneling with Subnets

The Android app lacks the subnet option for split-tunneling. The Windows app has it.

I have multiple devices on a LAN that I need to access. It's a pain to have to enter each, individually. And it requires updating when I add or change a device. This should work on Android just like it does on Windows.

Please add more locations in Indian server. Like express vpn has Mumbai and Chennai. A north and South Indian cities would be nice instead of just Mumbai and New Delhi.

  18. Full Configuration Profiles

Possibility to add any configuration option into profiles, I would not use some of them personally. The earlier this gets implemented, the less work it would be later.

    Config Options - personally used:
    - Split Tunnelling (individualisation for each profile, low prio)
    - Moderate NAT

Config Options - not personally used:
    - Port Forwarding
    - Allow Alternative Routing
    - VPN Accelerator
    - Auto Reconnect
    - Custom DNS (individualisation for each profile, low prio)

In short, basically any config option being available to save into a profile as well.

Have a great day, Proton team!

  19. CVE-2024-3661 (TunnelVision)

Make sure ProtonVPN is safe against CVE-2024-3661 (TunnelVision)!

According to the researchers responsible for the finding: "Using network namespaces on Linux can completely fix this behavior."

  20. Offer WireGuard inside SOCKS5 for IPv4 and tcp-only Wi-Fi

A trouble with WireGuard is that it is only udp

    Another trouble is that
    — som sites, like AWS, only offers IPv6 for free, not IPv4
    — outdated public Wi-Fi may only support IPv4, no IPv6
    — outdated public Wi-FI may only support tcp port 443

    Therefore,

Proton VPN should support WireGuard udp encapsulated in SOCKS5 server port tcp/443

This is supported by the Android non-root outbound firewall Rethink
    — tunneled traffic should be both IPv4 and IPv6
    — transport traffic should be be both IPv4 and IPv6

Proton holds antiquated views on IPv6:
    — After aws 2023 charges for…
