  1. Do NOT put version number into the path (folder name) of executable binaries!

Hardcoding the version number into the path (folder name) of executable binaries in ProtonVPN, Proton Mail Bridge is generally a VERY BAD IDEA and poor software engineering. Every time these programs update themselves, I need to manually update Windows Firewall rules, as - according to Proton Support - it is not possible for their software to update firewall rules automatically...

  2. Xfinity has your service blacklisted.

The last time I used your service my ISP(Xfinity) turned off my internet connection. A solution to this issue is the only thing I want.

  3. Add a timer field next to the disconnect button for temporary disconnect

Add a timer field next to the VPN disconnect button to specifiy a temporary disconnect time. The field remembers and displays the last time specified. I would use this to disconnect for a short period of time since I want to always have the VPN up but some websites don't work unless you disconnect. The field could be a pulldown with reasonable timer values to select from.

  4. Have settings open at startup on Windows or connect at startup when current settings fail

I am consistently experiencing failure of my paid Proton VPN to either open at startup on Windows 10x64 or connect at startup, and this is happening every instance despite update to newest version. There is currently no way to resolve this easily that I know of.

  5. Temporary Split Tunneling

Allow to temporarily split-tunnel an app/IP/domain.

This would be especially helpful on mobile when I need to access specific websites or apps that block VPN IPs, but only for a short while.

At present, I either split-tunnel the app and remember to remove it, or disable VPN and disable the "block connections without VPN" toggle in system settings. Neither is great from a privacy standpoint, but even though the latter is objectively worse, I still end up doing it because it's so much quicker to leave the toggle off, hit the tile to disable VPN, do my business, and turn…

  6. By having it actually connect.

instead of free proton saying connecting and never connects, let's try making it connect and learning about how to do that more easily without being redirected to compare plans or upgrading, it seems that's all you all want to discuss or suggest.

  7. Mark, specify, or sort specific servers by supported protocols.

I sometimes get annoyed when I see servers in the server list that do not support certain VPN protocols. It would be handy if you could sort the servers by supported protocols.

  9. Have a little effect when you copy a port number

When have port forwarding on, you have the listed port, and you can click it to copy it to the clipboard.
It would be nice if you had a little visual effect or something, because it doesn't actually show it actually worked.

  10. I still get locked out by companies that refuse to allow your serves to be my link to their pages.

There needs to be a serious 'Public Information campaign' to let the general public know that VPNs are not only for the corrupt or other bad people but also for the common man's protection.

  12. Add more locations

Please add more locations in Indian server. Like express vpn has Mumbai and Chennai. A north and South Indian cities would be nice instead of just Mumbai and New Delhi.

  13. Add a 'connecting' icon to the tray

Please add a new icon to the tray for the 'connecting/establishing connection' status.

Currently protonVPN flickers between the red disconected icon and green connected icon to indicate that a connection is being established.

This means you have to wait to see if the icon stops flickering back and forth because seeing the green tick isn't a confirmation that you are connected.

A third yellow icon to show that the VPN is searching for a connection but you are not secure yet would improve the user experience.

  14. Select country that you don't live in when activating free vpn.

Currently while using the free vpn protonvpn automatically connects to the closest server. This is a problem however when you are simply trying to bypass a region lock. Please allow free vpn users to connect to the second fastest server if the fastest connection is in their home country.

  15. CVE-2024-3661 (TunnelVision)

Make sure ProtonVPN is safe against CVE-2024-3661 (TunnelVision)!

According to the researchers responsible for the finding: "Using network namespaces on Linux can completely fix this behavior."

  16. Offer WireGuard inside SOCKS5 for IPv4 and tcp-only Wi-Fi

A trouble with WireGuard is that it is only udp

    Another trouble is that
    — som sites, like AWS, only offers IPv6 for free, not IPv4
    — outdated public Wi-Fi may only support IPv4, no IPv6
    — outdated public Wi-FI may only support tcp port 443

    Therefore,

Proton VPN should support WireGuard udp encapsulated in SOCKS5 server port tcp/443

This is supported by the Android non-root outbound firewall Rethink
    — tunneled traffic should be both IPv4 and IPv6
    — transport traffic should be be both IPv4 and IPv6

Proton holds antiquated views on IPv6:
    — After aws 2023 charges for…

    Add servers from Albania.
Google adds are not available in Albania so when connected to Albanian servers you won't see add on YouTube or other Google services.

  19. Being able to select the city along with the State/Department/Province

May 28th, 24. I like the new changes, but I don't like the fact that you can't see/choose the city anymore only the State/Department/Province. Please add the feature back where you can see which city one is selecting in the State. Thank you.
