Proton Docs / collaboration suite
(folders and docs similar to GoogleDocs)
Proton mail needs some collaborative word processor and spreadsheet in a drive where people can securely work on it but only the person who owns the files can keep them and no one can download them or copy them.
Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

I think the way to sync would have to be to work in a sort of time capsule (or whatever Windows calls that. "Recovery" I think) thing to the code.
Like, the program looks at the name and the file I.D., or something, and then decides weather or not to upload it. That way the information in the file stays private, but you get...well, syncing. And if you change the file I.D., yeah, it'll upload it again. But when you go changing I.D.s in a sync file, you're asking for trouble.
Is this how all sync apps work? Maybe. No idea. But I think the reason Proton hasn't done syncing yet is because it's still in the Beta, and privacy issues that need to be solved. -

Having come to loathe all the standard privacy invasive options the web has grown up with being able to edit documents in the cloud would be a superlative functionality addition. I think this would sit extremely well within the proton product.

I would like to be able to share folders, not just files through a link. Might FHE or similar cryptographic schemes be on your roadmap to enable this?

I remember hearing that you were thinking about offering cloud service. Any updates of if this will happen? I have been on hold waiting for you to hopefully launch such a service.

That would be wonderful! I really want to switch from one drive and google drive as soon as possible, but proton drive is just such an inconvenience atm. Can't wait for it to get out of beta :)

Came here to make this suggestion. I don't so much care about collaborating with others in documents but I use google drive for stuff like maintaining my CV, if I could do that in proton drive (open edit and save a document) then it's an instant win and I might finally be able to remove myself from yet another google service

Proton drive need the function to do live edits and save edits on a documents into to the cloud as they are changed
- eg. I use a couple of sheets on google drive to constantly update information through the day -If I use proton mail I have to download the doccument, save it and then re-upload which is too fiddly - I currently have a link on my homescreen to google drive that takes me to the document that I edit and don't even have to click "save changes" I would like to be able to do this on proton drive.

Once protonmail has collaborative docs like gdrive does meaning documents & spreadsheets then many users will finally be able to not use google anymore. Probably lots of people concerned with privacy will hop on the protonmail train :)

Came to post this. Once protonmail offers documents that can be collaborated by different users like google drive / docs / sheets, we will no longer have to depend on google for any of their products or services.

Agree with the original post.
Tight integration with iOS camera. Replace iCloud, automatically sync photos.
I will pay $100/year for this.

I'm not super technical so maybe this was already covered and I didn't realize it, but 3 things. First, the ability to preview common files, like spreadsheets and word docs. Second, to be able to work on an editable document (again, like word or excel) and have it save in ProtonDrive instead of having to save locally, then re-upload. Third, to be able to open a file without having to download it first. The whole process is cumbersome.

Be able to edit txt and office files, within ProtonDrive (Web and IOS/Android App), simultaneously will be grand.

I would also say that it would be great to have sync apps for mobile and desktop clients.

Also support fully open source apps so I can use f-droid instead of sideloading apks.
