Support for sftp
Support transfers for SFTP. This could be as simple as a SFTP bridge, one end implementing SFTP, ther other the ProtonDrive bespoke API.
This would allows me to use rsync and rclone.

Since there is already Protonmail Bridge for linux, why not have bridge support a sftp or rsync protocols also? I would prefer rsync, since it is bandwidth efficient, and bridge would handle the encryption, with no need for an additional encryption by sftp.

Adding this would bring me a big step closer to switching full-stop. And when I do that, I'm going paid plan all the way.

I think that in addition to rsync for linux users, using sftp or scp would not be a bad option for transferring large files, since you avoid saturating the browser where you are logged in and on the other hand, it is a safe option to continue managing your data. I have tried WinSCP and I think it would be a good alternative to file management.

I'd absolutely love to use rsync to not only back up any of my self-hosted storage, but also so that I can make better usage of the extra storage I have in my proton drive, lol!

Yes, I would like to see this feature also.

Very good idea! Rclone, "the Swiss army knife of cloud storage" is a great application and at present supports over 40 providers. I think it would not be a very big pain to implement the Proton Drive support, too. But also rsync is great and it is pre-installed on most Linux distributions and macOS.
