Linux Client
Proton Drive really needs the ability to sync desktop files automatically. This post focuses on a Linux client for Proton Drive.

I am very happy with of all the brilliant services you provide, but the fact that a sync client for Linux is still lacking makes Proton Drive next to useless to me. This also means that there's hardly any benefit for me for subscribing to a plan with more storage space.

I think it would be awesome to have Proton Drive support for Linux. I use Manjaro Linux on my laptop fulltime, and Windows on my desktop full time. Having a Proton Drive client that allowed me to more easily move files between the 2 and store them in the cloud would be awesome. In the meantime I will continue using the shared folder and then moving them around accordingly.

personally, i'm not on linux, so i don't care about having a gui or cli for linux. however, implementing a protocol compatible with my synology or simply having a universal protocol that lets me interact without using the official proton client seems essential. In the same way that there's a bridge for protonmail or the possibility of importing a safe from another password manager. We need to try and make protondrive more universal, otherwise what's the point of having 6 to that you can't use?

Lots of mentions in the past week about the Linux beta mail client...perhaps this indicates more progress on other Linux development in the near future.
Note: mail app is limited to 14 day trial for the free tier.

As another said, "The lack of ssh, scp, API, or desktop client access to proton drive really is holding back a lot of free authoritative recommendations to potential business and private customers."
A GUI would be nice for the Desktop, but I would really love some kind of CLI or Daemon option.

Hi Team,
Adding my votes to the growing number of people who would love to see a Linux client for Proton Drive become a reality.
Personally, it's the only thing that is holding me back from moving over to a Linux desktop environment, full-time and although I have some understanding of the complexities of offering a client for multiple file systems, there are a number of developers making strides, who I urge Proton to reach out to.
Love the products so far, but this would be something of a game changer for so many users.
Thanks!

This would be great feature to have for users trying to stay away from the Windows environment.

This is so important! It's incredible that there is no ETA yet. Please provide an update.

I'm waiting for this functionality for migration from Infomaniak and Dropbox with a paid plan. Just the possibility of syncing would be enough for me (no need to be able to modify on your servers). Thank you !

There is an Open-Source developer with a project called Celeste that can sync files with a number of cloud providers including Proton Drive. I urge Proton to support his efforts, but also any users who want to see a Linux client for ProtonDrive. The client is essentially a GUI for Rclone. At the moment it is very basic, but I'm sure with support from the community and Proton that more features can be added. https://github.com/hwittenborn/celeste

Would love to switch from dropbox but can't if Linux isn't supported

Critical to switch from dropbox.

I need cross platform cloud file storage and Linux support is critical. I tried to use 3rd party solution (rclone) but it is extremely slow and have many limitations.

As discussed elsewhere, linux users may be a minority of users, but they are very loud privacy and security advocates.
The lack of ssh, scp, API, or desktop client access to proton drive really is holding back a lot of free authoritative recommendations to potential business and private customers.
