Share Proton Docs link for collaboration without requiring Proton account
The new Proton Docs Feature just came out.
I wanted to use it, but i can't share the document so, that friends can collaborate. They don't all have a proton account.
That's why the sharing feature with the E-Mails doesn’t help a lot.
Normally you can just create a link to each document, so that others can edit it.
But at the moment this isn’t possible.
It’s a quite standard feature I personally would expect from a drive with documents.
One Option i tried is creating a sharable link in Proton Drive with a folder. In that Folder i got the Document. I can share the folder, but when my friends click on the folder link they can’t open the Document in it.
https://proton.me/support/drive-shareable-link
I get this error message: "Public sharing of documents is not yet supported. Please asks the owner to directly invite you to dthe document."
Without this feature the whole document drive thing doesn’t has a lot of use for me personally.
Thanks for your constant work.

Hi,
This has already been implemented, you can share a link to a Proton Doc. The user will be asked to sign in, but you can click “View/Edit as guest” -

My current simplest work-around to avoid receivers need to create Proton acc is sharing using public link with password.

Yes, we should be able to share files with non-Proton users. The sharing feature isn't much use without this. I love Proton, but not everyone is on the platform. The link could be protected with a password, but I think the best option would when the user tries to access the link, a one time code is emailed to the sharee's email account, and then they have to enter that to access the file. I can do this on OneDrive, and I like how that works. The OTP sent to their email would verify that it is being shared with only the intended people (assuming their email isn't hacked of course).

It's hard for me to use ProtonDocs if I can't use it with people who don't have proton

Not everyone uses Proton, thus the share feature of the document editing functions is not usable outside of a very few people. Please allow for an optional setting letting non-proton users to access and edit shared documents.

it boggles my mind that this absolutely basic functionality still does not exist
i was quite excited about the documents feature, now i won't be able to use it a single time until this is added
that makes me sad

It would be physically impossible for them to make it so people without a proton account can edit documents. At least impossible to do so without most likely compromising the security of their system. The best they could do is make it so people without a proton account can still view. The latter, being able to view documents without a proton account, I would like to however see integrated, but editing without one would prove to be impossible. Also, apologies in advance if I completely misunderstood what you were saying!

This goes for me, as well.

Currently when I share a document via email, the person I emailed is required to make a Proton account in order to view or edit the shared file. I would like to be able to send someone a link (by email or any other method, such as a private message) and they should be able to open and view the file. Google Drive does this.

I'm trying to provide a location for my healthcare provider to upload data to but I can only share a view link so this is impossible... I guess I'll continue to use Google Drive instead.

It's not an issue, the feature just simply doesn't exist.

If I want to move from googledocs, I need to be able to set up link sharing, basically anyone to edit a doc via a special link - I know that's not exactly a 'privacy' concern, but it could still dodge the screen scraping bots.

This would be really useful yes. Not only useful for us, the users, but also for Proton themselves, whenever we share docs with non-proton users they might get tempted to sign in when they see an google docs alternative that respects your privacy.

It would be cool if anyone with a shareable link could view and edit the document, similar to google docs for example.
This would greatly lower the barrier for me to use it regularly, as I could share it when planning events or doing a group project with people that don't have proton accounts.
I genuinely believe docs is a way better experience to use for most things I would usually use word/google/etc. for, and this would allow even more people to get familiar with it.
