plain text editting
Proton Docs need the ability to edit simple, plain text files. Ideally, one should be given the option to open text files as text regardless of extension, as long as they are actual plain text files.
This will give the option to have and be able to edit a bunch of file types that can make proton drive more useful and versatile. For example, one can have a markdown notes folder in proton drive, or even a text-based database, or simply take some simple notes and sync across devices.
It does not need to have any complex features or even syntax highlighting/rendering stuff, even though it would be nice to eg be able to have syntax highlighting for markdown or json etc. Just being able to edit one's personal, plain text files on the phone or web apps would already be a huge improvement.

This is even more important with Lumo projects, which can be initialized to read a proton drive folder for project knowledge. However, lumo is unable to understand proton docs. So if we can create/edit a text files in proton docs then we can work better with Lumo. (Of course this could be fixed by either letting Lumo write files itself or understand proton docs).

YES! This would allow me to get away from iCloud Notes and Samsung Notes since Proton Drive is available on both platforms and accessible on the web.

Would make things way easier - it doesn't even have to be an actual markdown editor. Just give a choice at "Create Document" (e.g. smartphone app) which kind of document to create - Markdown / Plaintext or Proton Doc.

Ive my notes as markdown files. Not having such a functionality is therefore a problem.

I'd like to use Proton Drive for my personal journal which is a simple long text file. Using Proton Docs introduces too much friction.

Agreed! This is really important for a variety of applications and is something Dropbox has allowed for some time.
