Mount Proton Drive as a Virtual Disk / File System Integration for Windows
I am a Proton Plus subscriber, and as a paying customer I expect a user experience and level of integration similar to what most competing cloud storage services already provide regarding backup and file synchronization.
I use Proton Drive not only as a backup tool, but also as a working storage location.
However, there is currently no option to mount Proton Drive as a standard virtual disk on Windows — for example as drive “P:\” in applications that interact directly with the file system.
This feature is essential for professional and productivity-focused workflows because it would:
make the entire Drive accessible through the native Windows file system and 3rd-party apps (Total Commander, IDEs, CAD, office software, etc.)
improve handling and organization of large amounts of files
provide a clearer overview of storage usage, i.e. folder and sub-folder sizes, which is crucial to verify that all intended files and folders have been synchronized correctly, improving control and speed of work
remove current workflow limitations associated with selective sync
Expected capabilities of this feature
✔ Visible as a regular drive letter in Windows
✔ Full compatibility with standard file operations
✔ Optional enable/disable by user preference
✔ Security preserved (end-to-end encryption)
✔ On-Demand Sync remains available as a complementary feature
Summary
This feature would provide Proton Drive with full usability and accessibility —
a natural, intuitive way to work with data → fewer clicks, more productivity.
It would bring Proton Drive to the same level as major cloud drive services
that already support virtual disk mounting.
Thank you for considering this feature request!

Exactly! For different personal and work identities, users handle different cloud storage systems. Google Drive is the gold standard in my opinion and having Proton Drive mounted in Windows OS as a virtual drive (customizable, but with default P: as recommended) would be great. Folders and subfolders eat up from WinOS maximum path character count and adds clutter into the WinOS default C: when it could be completely separate.
Here is a workaround until this feature becomes available:
Step 1: In Windows, using the Notepad, create a file as shown below and save it as something like
WindowsMountProtonDriveAsP.batYOUR_USER_FOLDER_NAME is the user profile you use in Windows. In the BAT file below, replace "C:\YOUR_PROTON_DRIVE_PATH\My files" with the specific path to your Proton Drive location including the My Files subfolder that Proton Drive enforces. This way the drive letter takes you directly into /My Drive...
Step 2: Place a copy of that BAT file here:
C:\Users\YOUR_USER_FOLDER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartupThis ensures the P virtual drive will be created when the computer restarts.
Step 3: Restart the computer and when WinOS asks if you trust the unrecognized author of this file, confirm to proceed - you are the author.
The file below checks if the Proton Drive path exists and if the letter P: is available (you can change to any letter you want), and creates a virtual drive that appears as "Proton Drive (P:) in the list of drives -- you can change the name apparent label from Proton Drive to anything you like. The REM line is a reminder to place it in the start-up folder.
--- Contents for the BAT file that will run automatically during computer launch ---
@echo off
REM Place this BAT file here: C:\Users\YOUR_USER_FOLDER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
setlocal
set "TARGET=C:\YOUR_PROTON_DRIVE_PATH\My files"
if not exist "%TARGET%\" (
echo Folder not found: "%TARGET%"
pause
exit /b 1
)if exist P:\ (

exit /b 1
)subst P: "%TARGET%"
if errorlevel 1 (

exit /b 1
)reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\P" ^
/v "_LabelFromReg" /t REG_SZ /d "Proton Drive" /fREM Remove REM from the next 3 lines if you want Command to display messages...
REM echo Created P: for "%TARGET%".
REM echo If Explorer still shows the old name, restart Explorer or sign out and back in.
REM pause -

While I agree that having it mounted as a root-level drive like P:\ is very convenient, the functionality you want is still achievable by just using the direct path to where that Proton Drive folder lives: C:\Users\[windows_user]\Proton Drive\[proton_user]\

This is the main reason I can't move clients to Proton. Service is good, software is a joke. If a client can just keep using programs (office, backup, etc) they already use then transition would be doable

I am researching for alternatives to google workspace. Proton drive is of interest but without the feature described here it's a non-starter.
