1. Customizable start screen

   A way to set the default screen when you first open the app to the screen/ side bar where it shows the projects and in progress/ history of chats. most of the time when i open the app thats the first screen i go to, and it's a bit of a pain to have to click up in the top left corner just to get started, i prefer to be able to scroll through the last time i used lumo, or be able to jump right back to key points, or go to my projects. It would simplify my workflow if i could have the option to set it to have that sidebar screen as the main start screen. Or a customizable start screen that you could have include different features that you use the most.

2. More General Transparency

   As privacy is a main concern for most of your users I wish for more transparency for everything Lumo.

   What models get used for the answer, what server did handle my input/output. For the server it would be good to know which location.

   If asked directly I need Lumo to be honest about its own architecture and what model is used.

   Also more openeness about decision making. Like honesty about what pieces of information came from training data and what came from a websearch. I had instances of specifics after Lumo did a websearch that were clearly not taken from any of the shown webresults and so must come from training data or hallucination.

   Also generally I would prefer fully open source models being used.

   Title: Allow Users to Manually Pin Items to Persistent Memory (URLs, References, Project Links)

   Lumo's persistent memory is a powerful feature, but users currently have no direct control over what gets retained versus what fades between sessions. Memory aggregation appears to use opaque heuristics—frequently discussed topics and user facts tend to persist, while specific URLs, project links, and one-time references often do not.

   This creates a recurring problem: users who share important links, reference documentation, or UserVoice post URLs in one thread return in a new thread to find that context is gone. The only workaround is manually re-sharing the same information every time.

   Proposed Feature:

   Add a "Pin to Memory" function that allows users to explicitly mark specific content for permanent retention across all sessions.

   Examples of what users would pin:

   URLs to UserVoice posts they want to track
   Links to external documentation or references used repeatedly
   Project file locations or external resource links
   Specific facts or preferences that the current heuristic-based memory might miss
   Recurring account details (e.g., plan tier, timezone, preferred tools)
   

   How It Would Work:

   User highlights or flags content within a conversation (e.g., right-click → "Pin to Memory," or a simple command)
   Pinned items appear in a Memory Management panel under Settings
   Users can review, edit, and delete pinned items at any time
   Pinned items persist across all threads—including project threads
   Pinned items are clearly labeled as user-added (distinct from auto-aggregated memory)
   

   Why This Matters:

   Current memory behavior is inconsistent and unpredictable. Users cannot rely on it for specific references. Giving users explicit control over what persists would:

   Eliminate the need to re-share links and context in every new thread
   Build trust in the memory system (users know what's saved because they chose it)
   Reduce friction for users managing multiple ongoing projects
   Complement the existing auto-aggregation with intentional, user-curated memory
   

   The current system remembers some things and forgets others with no transparency. A user-controlled pinning layer would solve this without requiring a full redesign of the underlying memory architecture.

4. Ability to check updated files from Proton Drive

   When I upload a file to Lumo from Proton Drive, Lumo makes a suggestion to change something in the file. A word file for instance. I do the changes and want Lumo to check it again. But a file that has been once uploaded to Lumo cannot be "updated" it can be uploaded and then it is locked in practice. I need to rename the file if I want lumo to see the new version. My proposal is that once I have updated a file on Proton Drive that I have a possibility to remove the old version from the Lumo Chat and start fresh with the new version of the file. Alternatively, just with one button "replace old version" that makes it easier to work with updated files. On another note, when the file names are not very short, selecting a file from proton drive for lumo is a bit of a guess work. The possibility to have a larger field for selection of proton drive, maybe even on a separate window including change date or file size would be helpful.

5. Lumo - think before you write

   Recently Lumo has started interrupting itself mid-answer saying "Wait..." then correcting, sometimes totally negating, the part of the answer it already gave you, which you may have spent time reading and digesting which then becomes a total waste of your time.
   
   Have Lumo not start writing until it has its total best answer. It's plenty fast enough and now that you're displaying its "thinking" process we're not worried that it's stalled.
   Or if you prefer, make this a checkbox we can choose, or a retained setting if we're signed in.

6. Add support for de-googled devices

   Lumo is unsupported without Google Play Services. Can't start the application, blocked during boot.
   Using LineageOS. Should work without Google.

8. Train Lumo to understand the user interface

   Lumo doesn't understand how to communicate through the User Interface very well. It should be trained. Lumo said that the character limit for a single response was about 4000 to 6000 characters. It should know the actual number and be able to feedback to the user that the limit was hit instead of indicating that it will try to better next time (it won't, the UI has a hard limit). When trying to get Lumo to format a list, it is like working with a teenager, it doesn't do what you want and says it will try to better next time. The problem is that it doesn't understand how the user interface interprets things like linefeed vs carriage return. If they Lumo and the UI both used a common format like Rich Text Format, it would cut the conversation requests way down.

9. Sort chat history by last activity

   Description:
   Lumo’s chat history currently appears to keep conversations sorted by their original creation date instead of their most recent activity.

   This creates a significant usability problem when reusing older conversations. If I open an old chat and continue using it, the conversation does not move back to the top of the history. It stays buried in the same old position, even though it has just become active again.

   This is especially inconvenient for long-running conversations. For example, I may have a chat created weeks or months ago that I still use regularly for the same topic, project, research thread, troubleshooting case, or personal workflow. Even after sending a new message in that chat, it remains far down in the history list.

   Expected behavior:

   When a conversation receives a new message, either from the user or from Lumo, it should move back to the top of the history. The history should be sorted by last activity, not only by the original creation date.

   Current behavior:

   Old conversations seem to remain sorted according to when they were first created. Reusing a conversation does not make it appear as a recent chat.

   Why this matters:

   This makes the history harder to use as the number of chats increases. A conversation that is still active and relevant can remain hidden far down the list simply because it was created a long time ago.

   The current behavior also goes against what users normally expect from chat applications, messaging apps, email threads, and productivity tools. In most interfaces, a recently active conversation is shown near the top, regardless of when it was originally created.

   Practical impact:

   Users may need to scroll through a long history to find conversations they are actively using.

   Important ongoing conversations become harder to resume.

   Users may create duplicate chats just to keep important topics visible, which makes the history more cluttered.

   The “history” view becomes less useful because it does not reflect what has actually been used recently.

   This is particularly annoying for people who use Lumo for ongoing technical work, long-term research, recurring questions, project notes, or conversations that naturally continue over time.

   Suggested improvement:

   Please sort chat history by a “last activity” or “last updated” timestamp.

   A chat should move to the top when:

   The user sends a new message in that conversation.

   Lumo replies in that conversation.

   The conversation is resumed or updated.

   Optional improvement:

   It would also be useful to display the last activity date or time in the history list, so users can clearly understand why a conversation appears where it does.

   Possible sorting options could include:

   Sort by last activity

   Sort by creation date

   Sort alphabetically

   Pinned or favorite chats first

   But the default behavior should probably be sorting by last activity, because that is the standard and expected behavior for a chat history.

10. Preview Images in Project Knowledge Before Deleting – Show Thumbnails or Click-to-Open

    Currently, when viewing files in the "Project Knowledge" section, images are displayed only as generic icons with filenames (e.g., IMG_9630.png). There is no way to preview the actual image content before deciding to delete it. This creates a significant risk of accidentally deleting the wrong image, especially when managing multiple uploads with similar or non-descriptive filenames.

    I request a preview feature for images in the Project Knowledge panel with the following specifics:

    • Thumbnails: Display small thumbnail previews of the images instead of just generic icons so users can instantly identify the content.
    • Click-to-Open: Allow users to tap or click an image to open a larger preview window before confirming any action.
    • Confirmation Dialog: When clicking the delete (X) button on an image, show a confirmation popup where the image preview is clearly visible, asking "Are you sure you want to delete this specific image?"

    It would be good to be able to delete images from the Images section independently of the chat/conversation they were created by - especially when created within a project where it only seems to be removed when the entire project is deleted.

12. Project Knowledge Preview adjustable width on lumo.proton.me

    Right now when I preview project knowledge in Lumo on lumo.proton.me, the preview shows up in a side bar. However, the side bar can't be adjusted in width. With the project folder in full screen on most monitors, there is a LOT of extra real-estate. I'd be nice if the frame used to display this preview was adjustable in width so I could use that free real-estate.

    As noted in Lumo's Privacy Documentation, the system currently routes queries to several open-weight models, including Qwen and Kimi K2. While utilizing these models supports cost-efficiency and open-source diversity, research (e.g., NDSS 2026, "S1761") indicates they contain significant internal censorship and narrative engineering aligned with authoritarian state interests.

    Proton’s core mission is to champion digital rights, encryption, and freedom against state surveillance. However, deploying models with embedded propaganda or censorship mechanisms creates a contradiction:

    • Cognitive Risk: Users may receive subtly altered information or suppressed viewpoints on sensitive geopolitical topics (e.g., HK, Taiwan, human rights).
    • Value Misalignment: This conflicts with Proton's historical stance supporting activists and resisting authoritarian control.

    Proton should implement a bias mitigation layer specifically for these models. This could involve:

16. Thinking to be part of the output

    When thinking is on, i really wish that the thinking was included in Lumos output for one critical reason: Lumo can't recall whatever it concluded during thinking.

17. There should be a way to turn off the cat avatar

    I would love to use Lumo, but can not because of the annoying cat avatar. Lumo says it could be turned off, but gives misleading instructions how to do it. For example the Settings menus are very different what Lumo desribes and what I actually see.

18. DICTATION PRIVACY

    As a privacy-focused user, I am hesitant to use voice input because of the 'whenever possible' clause. I need a mandatory 'On-Device Only' toggle in settings. If the on-device model cannot transcribe a phrase, the app should fail locally rather than routing to the server. Without this hard constraint, I cannot trust the voice feature for sensitive conversations

    I wanted to suggest adding an option to customise or hide the default cat avatar. I'm not much of a cat person, so having the ability to change or turn it off entirely would be a great improvement.

20. Copy/export AI reply the way it preserves font/formating/headers/quotations

    Would it be handy if a button to copy the AI answer would be multi-functional to allow copying answer also in a
    - markdown
    - HTML
    - BBCode ("Bulletin Board Code")
    - readable text (currently pasted formated text with quotations is not so easily readable when pasted into a plaint text editor/viewer)
