How can we improve Proton?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  2. More customizable backups in proton drive

    When doing programming work with stuff like javascript, you might want to keep a backup of your project, but exclude certain folders like node_modules.

  3. Link to User Voice from mobile apps

    Sometimes I have a suggestion for UserVoice when I'm on my phone, but I cannot find a link to it from my Proton phone apps. It would also help if login to UserVoice was automatic if already logged into protonmail.

  4. Customize colours on email page

    Is there an option to change the color of the email page .... blue and white is boring... maybe even add a theme of ones own or from a selection ??

  5. Consistent in-app feedback button across all apps

    Way too many hoops to jump through to get to (external) feedback platform.

    Need an in-app (1-window) feedback mechanism.

  6. Improve UI when deleting messages

    Currently, when you delete a message there's a popup near the bottom of the screen that offers an undo option. This is difficult to react to and use if you delete a message by mistake, especially if you're deleting several messages and there are several identical popups on the screen concurrently.

    Suggestion: when you click the delete icon on a message, change it to an undo icon. Do not remove the message from the list for a few seconds.

  7. account login page background

    On the account.proton.me/login page, the background image is plain white, I would love the old logon page image background of Matterhorn mountain to come back.

  8. Search by labels & keywords

    Since search is limited to basically only senders, recipients, subject lines, and dates I've found it the one really big issue I miss from Gmail etc. Create a freeform keyword entry field to search and maybe a pull down menu menu for often applied keywords would be handy. Also need to implement search by label.

  9. Configure if mail or calendar desktop app opens first

    It would be nice to choose, if you wanna start Mail or Calendar in the new Windows App. Much better would be to have a separate shortcut for each of them.

  10. Don't obscure date/time when hovering over message

    Please don't obscure the date/time of receipt when hovering over a message in the inbox. At the moment, hovering over a message brings up the open, trash, archive, and snooze buttons, obscuring the date and time the message was received. Just add those buttons next to that info.

  12. Creating a uservoice account should not automatically connect with Gravatar

    As a Proton user, I expect my interactions with all Proton related systems to have privacy by default. Currently, when creating a uservoice account to access the Proton feature suggestion platform, my Gravatar information is connected to uservoice by default and displayed publicly.

    Connecting uservoice to Gravatar should be done with full informed consent, not automatically.

  13. Delete emails when using forwarding from Gmail

    Allow Proton mail to delete emails in Gmail in addition to just forwarding. Hopefully this isn't something google is preventing. It is available when forwarding Gmail to other providers.

    I use proton for my small business. It would amazing if I could add a letterhead or watermark option to the signature section.

  15. follow intended username capitalization

    It's really a silly UI change. The welcome message on the email column layout capitalizes the first letter of non-capitalized username and it really bother me.

    if the username is "username" it should great "username" not "Username".

    That's my rant sorry to bother it's a really small change please fix

  17. Consistency with Ebony Theme

    The Ebony, Carbon, and Monokai themes are dark themes, but the i tooltip popups on the Settings pages show black text on a white popup background.
    This proposal requests a white text on a black (for Ebony) or a dark background (for Carbon and Monokai).

    Edit: To clarify, the tooltip is the i inside a circle similar to the (?) when Proton Uservoice asks you to give 1, 2, or 3 votes: "You have # votes left! (?)"

  18. Link standartnotes with calender

    Standartnotes is just new to proton but it would be nice if we could make a Link from the Calender to standartnotes or also to files in drive or to emails in the Mailsevices.
    But first add a contactsync please:-P

  19. Desktop App Configure default browser

    Currently Desktop App always opens Chrome if installed. Brave is my default browser in Windows but it's not being used. I suggest the desktop app use the windows default or configure the default in the Desktop App.

    With the recent updated inactive account policy implemented (https://proton.me/support/inactive-accounts), I'd like to suggest the idea for Proton accounts to have an inactivity protection mechanism.

    What is an Inactivity Protection Mechanism?

    An inactivity protection mechanism is a system that automatically triggers a predetermined action when a user fails to engage with their email account within a specified timeframe. This feature would ensure that if a user becomes unavailable or incapacitated, their email account can be secured and protected from unauthorized access.

    How it could work

    1. Users opt-in to enable the inactivity protection mechanism for their email account.
