I want to see Proton tie up with mobile manufacturers to create their own mobile operating system thus giving stiff competition to google and apple.

    For a company that should be so privacy-focused, they seem to lack situational awareness of their own feedback board.

    On top of that, you are unaware of how phones and the modern-day GSM (Global System for Mobiles) operates in the USA and abroad.

    GSM forces only 'approved mobile carriers' to connect to towers and to 'register' themselves (via the phone's hard-coded hardware ID commonly called IMEI/MEID/ICCID or equivalent). After that, they must agree to a certain standard of near-zero encryption (weak encryption) that allows for law enforcement to easily intercept & decode cell phone transmissions (voice, SMS, and otherwise).

    In the USA, federal law mandates all this for the most part and the political trade organizations make sure that the 'status quo' is maintained. What you'd need to do is create a free fully-encrypted pseudo-anonymous massive WiFi network across the ENTIRETY of the United States, build your own phones and hardware to use the internet ONLY (bypassing the cell phone tower issues entirely), and still (somehow) be able to connect to said towers for 911 (emergency) purposes without stepping on the foul side of regulations.

    And on top of ALL THAT nonsense, we have the apathy of the majority of the public. We have encrypted calling/apps that protect privacy but only a tiny fraction of people are willing to use them. Look at the apathy of people to the Snowden reveals (with many proclaiming actual ignorance to the entire debacle and many more turtling down in their 'nothing to hide nothing to fear' mentality).

    They claim privacy but in reality it is just a fancy wrapper for their custom app on existing mobile devices and a few hacky workarounds to make it dial-out to standard landlines/mobiles.

    I literally just have a protonmail e-mail address and I still get a lot of spew thrown at me as a 'tinfoil hat' person whenever I have to give out my e-mail. 'Why dont you just use gmail like a regular person you weirdo'. Like WTF?

    If you want protonmail to offer an open-source version of that 'blackphone' then good luck; the fiscal expenditure to do so is likely far more than reasonable. But if you just want a secure mobile calling app that can also call 'outbound' to any standard landline/mobile and sell a subscription service to pay them INSTEAD of cell service from a regular provider then that would be a better alternative.

    Knowing how to "turn computer on" and "force it off" being my skill level, I would very much appreciate guidance. My computer is, unfortunately only capable of OS X on Firefox. I found this place quite by luck, as a subscriber to proton mail. I'm wondering whether anyone can tell me, since I'm using Firefox, am I in any way automatically hooked into any of the big three?. My recently adopted search engine was suggested as duckduck.go. I'm sure that's not its proper form, but hope some readers will know what I mean.

    Purchased membership after discovering protonmail, and would be a very happy camper if given information as to other ways to attain some privacy. About 2+ years ago my email was hacked and I didn't know it until about six months later, when I received an email that purportedly was sent to me by myself. With this discovery, I looked in my spam and found a number of emails in there, also purportedly sent by me!! The leading few words that showed as the beginning of "my" accompanying email were extremely suggestive (at least to me ) of someone having fun writing porn to others, apparently from my email. This lit a light in my slow mind. I realized that this could explain the last words I ever heard from a friend I'd had for about 70 years. They were, "Well! How do you explain yourself...!!! ", to which fury, my startled reply was interrupted by a slamming of receiver and subsequent blocking of any contact by any means, including snail mail and mutual acquaintances. I'd like to know how to secure myself from any further hacking, as experts told me that there's no way I could stop someone from continuing to use my name to send spurious look-alike emails. Anyone with any ideas? Thanks for taking time to read this.

    If you want the safest and more stable OS in the market, look into QNX, a real time micro kernel OS designed with saferty and security from within. This OS is not free nor it is open source, and it is used in the most reliable and mission critical embedded systems in the industry, including cars, military aircaft, trafic lights and nuclear plants. The last BlackBerry phone ran QNX, as it was built after BlackBerry acquired the company in 2010. If Proton ever decides to go down the path of bringing a safe OS for mobile devices into the market, call BlackBerry QNX. Oh by the way, BlacklBerry became one of the largest cybersecurity companies in the world when acquired Cylance (the AI based anti virus company) last year. One of their customers in mobile is Punkt.     Until a person is damaged in some way by the complete immersion of the Big Three (G00G!e, F@ceb00k, +@m@z0n) in their lives, it’s very hard to impart how inherent these systems have become to everyone’s lives in the first world, even people who do not consider themselves technical or who haven’t bought into the system.

    As one who has been attacked by a super spyware group for advocate work, let me comment just that I am very grateful for proton mail, even though that email was even compromised for me, and to see any system be established independently of the big three would be a dream come true.

    A De-googled android ROM would be great.

    If Protonmail can also create a android phone every few years such as the ProtonPhone which comes with the ProtonMail android rom then I will buy that.
