Proton Search Engine
Instead of using Google Chrome, Edge, or Opera. If you create your own web browser and Search Engine it would lead to better privacy and ease of mind for those against Big Corporations

I don't think creating a search engine is a good idea, it's too hard to make it good. Even DuckDuckGo is not as good as Google, while they are already so long on the market.
But a Chromium web browser would be nice. Brave is adding too many useless things and they try to push their own services via the browser. So I would like to switch to a Proton browser. -

There is no privacy-respecting, respectable privacy engine currently. Even if you are willing to pay money for it.
YaCy is unusable for normal people, and arguably usable for datascience people.
Searx sometimes works, but uses commercial search engines, and you have to deploy your own instance, or rely on 3rd party.DuckDuckGo is a choice of many, but they have deal-breaking issues:
- May 2022, they are allowing Microsoft to track your searches. They have an agreement signed with MS that requires them to deanonymize you to access Bing search queries.
- They do not offer a paid plan.
- Some accuse them of being the Amazon search engine
- They are registered in US jurisdiction, which are normally hostile to user privacy. Please deliver a secure search engine. I'm willing to pay for it extra in addition to my existing Proton plan, even if you decide to fork YaCy or Searx, or provide some basic service - it's the respectability of the provider that matters, their technical expertise, and legal background.

With the announcement that Google has created a “speech-police” mechanism that will identify users who use politically unacceptable phrases when searching, it's time for a Proton Search engine with all the security and anonymity features that we know and love.

DuckDuckGo has revealed themselves as apart of the problem. They will be adjusting search results to support Ukraine. I also support Ukraine, but this is the exact mechanism that is causing Russian citizens to not realize what their country is up to.
We need a trustworthy search engine that will simply bring us the most relevant websites, and trust that its readers will use critical thinking skills to interpret that information.
I'll be switching to Brave, but I would eagerly move to Proton if that was an option. I feel like it it aligns with your support for journalists.

I would like a search engine that presents results based on their relevance to the terms of the search and without any political or commercial ordering, hiding, or manipulation of the results.

I downloaded duckduckgo as my internet connection; in an attempt to thwart off google and to get a protonmail account. I'll have to see how this works out.

I use duckduckgo for now. It's great that Proton Technologies provide a solid encrypted email service, however I would argue that it is good that use different tools from different companies as it would not be nice to get stuck in yet another ecosystem.

Yes. It will be unique. There no are no search engines that are 100% open and free software. There is actually one which is searx.me; but that a meta-search engine.

Or say, Duckduckgo could buy protonmail. Try duckduckgo in private browsing - or perhaps Startpage.
