Linux supported equally
Linux is very popular among privacy concerned users, who make up a large chunk of Proton's userbase. However, Proton fails to provide any solid Linux apps and frequently leaves them unmaintained or released years after the initial product launch. Proton should make Linux a first-class platform, with proper support from day one.

yes, very disappointed in the current state of linux apps from Proton. I would like flatpaks or appimages, thanks!

As a paying proton member I would very much like to see the full suite of Proton apps for Linux desktops with support for the Wayland compositor please. It is really about time.

Privacy by default as long as you use an OS that gives you no privacy at all?
This thread has been going for one and a half years, not one comment from Proton?
Really?
I'm a paying subscriber until I find an alternative that actually want their customers to be able to have privacy. -

"With Proton, your data belongs to you, not tech companies, governments, or hackers."
Echoing oh so many people below, I only used Windoze for gaming, but with Windows Recall on the horizon I decided that the current state of Linux gaming was good enough because I am not on board with M$ harvesting every single byte of my usage data to feed their disgusting LLMs.
Imagine my surprise that Proton has the quoted marketing bit on their page only to discover lackluster Linux support, blatantly proving the quote above to be false. If I was in charge of the Proton marketing dept or an exec, I'd be ashamed.
I'll give it to the end of my subscription (they already have my money, those cads) to see if there's any movement on this space and if not I'll look for better alternatives.

Regarding what jeronath commented: I did exactly those things after being a Proton Unlimited user for a number of years. Mullvad VPN is much better (more stable). Filen Drive is much better (much faster and more stable). Tuta Mail is much better in general. My Unlimited subscription is set to expire very soon and I've already canceled the subscription. If you think about it, Proton probabaly considers Linux users a liability given the small number of us compared to Windows and MacOS users. As far as being aligned with Linux users becuase of the interest in privacy - forget it. They could care less. Good riddance.

I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint those who use Proton tools on Linux by telling them that I've been a paying user for six years, after having been a free user since Proton was launched! Over the years, I've noticed that Proton is more concerned with making money from Windows and Apple users than respecting Linux users, who are actually the closest to the philosophy that Proton claims to uphold. Don't expect any progress on their part; they almost never respond to requests from this user base. Yes, we have a very limited version of the VPN, and there's no future for a Drive app that allows synchronization. Personally, I think I'll end up leaving Proton for Mullvad VPN, Filen Drive, and Tu Mail when the next bill comes due. I'm tired of their contempt for Linux users.

Right now, there is an incoming wave of new Linux users, since the end-of-live for Windows 10 is pushing people on lower-end hardware out. For proton, this would be a great opportunity, if Linux support were not so lackluster.
Paying customers switching to Linux are in for a surprise. -

Absolutely. I just switched to linux for my main laptop, and was fully expecting all proton apps, but there was no proton drive! There was proton VPN but it looked super old, like it was from 2015 or something.

I have a free account at Proton, which I used to decide whether I could make the switch from gmail full-time. That's your target audience, right?
I was thinking of upgrading to Proton Unlimited or Duo, but I can't afford to do that unless I can ditch my Dropbox account.
But when I tried to set up syncing between my Linux desktp and your Drive, there was NO Linux support. Nothing, zero, nada. All I have been able to find is a fiddly rclone tool that doesn't work on your system.
I've seen you say elsewhere that you are "trying" to improve Linux support, but that all your Linux people are working on other tasks. So, hire more Linux people!! Get serious, guys. Make Linux an equal partner in all ways.

Linux support is critical now as Windows is more a spyware than an OS at this point.

I use linux across all of my machines. I currently use email and pay for the vpn (which still doesn't support the stealth protocol). At this point, if something better comes along for me, I'll switch.

One more voice to ask for linux parity, please. We're trying to achieve privacy yet the only OS that doesn't collect data is not currently supported, nevermind prioritised.
I doubt I'll stay subscribed without a natve linux suite. Drive is useless even with rClone, for me - I have to pay for a borg server on top of paying for the Proton suite right now :(

Maybe instead of wasting money (that ppl are paying for their Proton services) on another uselss AI, do hire devs to properly develop native Linux apps that are on par with other OSes? Windows VPN app has already been revamped few times over the years yet 4 years after the release the Linux app looks like some sad exuse of an inerface.

There is a major **** to linux from windows especially for people who are concerned with privacy. Please create apps for everything.

I am disappointed to see that the linux app are still underdevelopped compared to the windows OS version. When I finally decided to switch to Linux, that was another big obstacle from a company that pretend to encourage free software.

Given Proton is supposed to be about security and privacy, you'd think they would prioritise Linux more. Any move away from Microsoft/Google is going to be more private/secure.
Get it sorted, Proton!

Without an official client, Proton loses its shine. Why pay more than competitors to use email, Drive, etc., still not have a spreadsheet, slide and form editor, and still be stuck with Windows or MacOS in the same way?
Unfortunately, I think that privacy alone is not enough; it is necessary to win over personal and business users with convenience.

The less good Linux support proton offers, the more all that "privacy first" talk sounds like marketing blah-blah. I'm deeply disappointed about the lack of care proton shows the Linux community. I'm thinking of canceling my subscription to look for alternatives.
