Run Immich server on proton drive, instead of the custom and very rudimentary photos feature we have now
Hi,
the new photos feature is a nice direction, but a far cry from all the competitors.
So why not use an feature rich open source software like Immich, let it run on the Proton Drive storage and don't spend resources reinventing the wheel.
This would be a smart move!
Photos integration in drive is too basic and will take years to rival Google Photos etc, if at all.
Best

This is a practical suggestion. Many gamers keep screenshots, gameplay clips, and game memories in cloud storage, so having a more complete photo management system would definitely improve the experience. I also like apps such as https://dapatkanrdream.id/, where it's fun to save memorable moments and share them with friends. A feature-rich photo solution would make organizing those memories much easier.

I like this suggestion. Using a mature open-source solution instead of building everything from scratch could speed up development and provide users with many features they already expect. I often use https://chatgpt.com to compare software options and explore practical ideas like this. Thanks for sharing your thoughtful feedback!

That sounds amazing, I'd love a better working proton photos, especially regarding the desktop app (see icloud photos on windows). But I recognize it takes more than "just put immich on proton", because core functionalities of immich rely on the picture not being encrypted on the server.

That’s a great idea - it could be a real game changer. From a business perspective, it might encourage customers to purchase additional storage.

Critical. I would not mind paying for this feature.
Alternatively I have to invest in hardware and self-host a solution; I have about 1TB photos and videos, so this quickly add up to about 300 Euros + power consumption of the server with the Proton Drive synced and binded together with Immich.
I.e. I rather prefer Proton offered a cloud based solution in which I could populate my photos and videos to my family. -
