Native support for Sailfish OS
There's already an idea for ProtonMail and ProtonDrive dating back to 2016, but it would be desirable to implement this for all apps. This would make a Google-free operating system increasingly realistic, as you wouldn't need all the Google services. Not even microG.
Especially since Jolla (https://jolla.com) places a strong emphasis on data protection and privacy with its OS (https://sailfishos.org). This aligns very well with Proton's philosophy, particularly in light of the upcoming release of the new Jolla Phone.
I, and hopefully other users as well, would welcome direct, native support. I don't know how deeply Sailfish OS is based on Linux.
But perhaps this could be done in parallel with the development of Linux apps?

I strongly agree with this suggestion, and I think Sailfish OS is one of the most realistic paths toward true digital independence and privacy.
Even if Proton expands on Android, it still ultimately depends on Google’s ecosystem at multiple levels, and using Android—even de‑Googled or modified versions—does not inherently guarantee privacy due to its underlying architecture and dependencies. At the same time, Apple represents a different kind of lock‑in, with a closed ecosystem that limits transparency and control. A native implementation on Sailfish OS would position Proton as a real alternative to both Google and Apple—not just in terms of independence, but also in terms of verifiable privacy.
Sailfish OS is a European, Linux‑based operating system with a strong focus on data protection and user control. It originates from Nokia’s MeeGo project and has been continuously developed by former Nokia engineers and the open‑source community after Microsoft discontinued it. It also supports Android apps through sandboxing, allowing compatibility without giving apps unrestricted access to user data. This creates a balanced approach between usability and privacy.
In the current global context, where concerns about data sovereignty, surveillance, and reliance on foreign tech providers are increasing, this initiative could be highly attractive not only for individual users but also for companies and governments looking for trustworthy, independent solutions.
With Jolla already developing its own hardware, such as the
Jolla Phone (https://commerce.jolla.com/products/jolla-phone-sep-ii-2026 )
, this is a unique opportunity to build a fully independent mobile ecosystem: European phone, a privacy‑focused OS, and Proton’s services working natively together. If Proton is serious about offering a genuine alternative to the current duopoly, native support for Sailfish OS would be a strategic and forward‑looking step.

I strongly recommend that Proton Apps will get a Sailfish native implementation. The reason ist our vision of digital independence. Currently iOS and Android are dominating the mobileOS market. Only a linux based OS will break this. In this case its a european one and JOLLA is trying to jump on the mobile phone hardweare train as well. Please help them!! Should't be too difficult to port the apps.
