It would be nice to use the email address itself for chat. Delta Chat already offers this over IMAP, but sadly this won't work with ProtonMail as IMAP is only available via the ProtonMail Bridge.

Is it possible to do this using emails as basis for the chats? so you would use yourname@protonmail.com and yourname@chatprotonmail.com, and all messages send/received from the latter are processed by ProtonChat.

Fontend something similar to what modern chat aplliacation can provide, but behind it you would exchange just email messages. Like a user from Gmail can send you a normal email to the Protonmail and then the ProtonChat app would display email as a chat message. And if the ProtonChat user would send a message to somone with user@gmail.com, and the gmail doesnt have this app, then he/she would read it as a normal email, could reply to it and again ProtonChat would see that as reply maessage. Why not develop your own SMS messaging system that's an end to end encrypted and be used across both Android and iOS users, as well as having the ability to be used on WearOS and Apple Watches with integration for tablets and desktops. It can be linked to their own mail addresses as well. Like one big bundle and charge whatever per month. Can even implement "self-destruction" messages or timers when a message is opened. All people want is a clean UI with that kind of privacy. Add a nice looking keyboard to it and an option to send a message encrypted and the receiver could decrypt it as long as they're using the same application.

It could be server based and used as long as the user links their mobile number to it (or it could just be a user database) Can also implement Voice activation for video and calls. Can be used over the internet or mobile signal. Could develop a desktop application on top of an already website-based system. Everybody is worried about privacy today so why not use this time to calm people down with something like this idea with an already built up safe, no worry environment...and make it an open source project so people can add different features, styles, extensions, etc.

Encrypted messengers already exist like ******* exist. I think if proton were to create a messenger it should be only for those who currently have Proton accounts registered therefore ensuring the transmissions are encrypted either side. That is the only way it would compete with other messenger services by providing them something new, established and reliable. This will also help the Proton community to grow in order to use it you need to sign up with Proton to communicate with other members.

Signal uses Google play services to communicate and needs access to your body sensors to do so. Please make a messaging app that doesn't need all of that information and allows me to click a contact and go straight to messaging them.

Because I don't *need* that level of security for my family IM needs I use Telegram as my primary messaging client but it would be nice to have something that integrates with PM (single client install on mobile?) and offers Signal level of security/integrity with some of the user friendly Telegram features
