Proton Chat - Messaging app
Let's make it in some math style:
ProtonMail : Gmail = ProtonChat : Hangouts
:)
Secure private chat same principle of secure email, but applied to chats.

It's been under review for 10 years and still hasn't been accepted? It's hilarious, ha ha ha. "We designed our encryption flexible enough to allow for chat. But we're not planning it for the summer. Probably in 2016." What year? 2025, and it's still coming. :/

'Proton Chat' should be a Matrix client with a European based Synapse server, free for all. Proton Unlimited, Duo & Family should get access to bridges like SMS, Signal, Telegram etc.

Would love if they just host Matrix instance. It's not hard, they won't have to develop anything new, and Matrix is already secure.

It should be similar to Telegram, but login to register by email

Please build this upon Matrix as an open communication protocol and offer separate instances for businesses with custom domains & options to limit federation.

This is top of my list as well. Everyone mentions Signal, but I have no desire to use that because I don't need yet another separate chat app/account. Privacy isn't the only reason people want Proton Chat, although that's a huge perk. We also want to have a chat function under the same subscription/ecosystem. That's why people like Google Chat, it's all under the same roof. It's great for businesses, when they add their staff to Workspace they now have a built in chat their staff don't have to sign up for, and it integrates great with sharing docs and files in Drive. This is what Proton Chat would be competing with and be a huge upgrade on imo, with its added security and privacy, and just another reason people can make the move entirely from Google to Proton.

I would very much like to see this feature implemented. I used google chat most days with my wife, and it's a feature I do actually need to communicate with her. If you guys believe in your encryption and privacy infrastructure, why not put your money where your mouth is and provide pairity with google's equivalent services, except with your privacy strengths?

I would love to see this added to the Suite.
Before I knew better Hangouts was the bomb.
For about 10 years have been using Zoho Cliq, has worked very well, and integrated with their suite.
There are other viable options yes, but I think those of us with our security/privacy in mind would be much more apt to use a service from you.
I for one don't trust Signal, have heard many stories of things still getting out.

Just use Signal. Don't split even more the people/community

From my perspective, this Feature will not make the proton environment richer. Why? Like comments below, people already using Signal or other communication Apps and they already have their network there. Proton-Team should concentrate their strength in basic stuff like: Doc-, Sheet-, Note- and Present-Apps!!! That kind environment should give businesses and research people the ability to work and collaborate in a privat and save environment. Thanks

This would not add much, as there is already Signal.
It's not hosted in the EU, but Signal has Perfect Forward Secrecy on the end-to-end layer. This means that every message has its individual encryption key, so even if the Signal server collected all messages sent, it couldn't decrypt them. -

Hello Proton! Any news about that? :)
It would really help to have this feature. -

An RCS Chat would be awesome, then WhatsApp and GoogleMessage would be obsolete

@Proton
Hey, it's been a few years since you seem to have looked at this. Do you have intentions to do it? -

This would be a tremendously well received product and really should be top priority.

We need a EU hosted chat alternative.

Any service not based in the US would be welcomed by the rest of the world. Messaging especially.

I see a secure real-time group/chat application as a chance to grow by evolving.

Has this request actually been out there for 10 years?
Must be a lot more work than one might think! A real-time chat that is secure proton user to proton user, and proton user to any app that uses the Signal protocol (most chat apps are heading toward the signal protocol)... with a non-secure method that would connect the proton user to SMS/MMS (RCS?). Apple users will be connected via Signal protocol.
The hard part (IMHO) is getting a reasonable group chat working securely for the proton users and notification on the group when any group member is not secure (not a proton user and a user not connected via the signal protocol) .
Maybe this feature is wishful thinking.
