Proton Chat - Messaging app
Let's make it in some math style:
ProtonMail : Gmail = ProtonChat : Hangouts
:)
Secure private chat same principle of secure email, but applied to chats.

Also just looking for any update on this - is this still planned?

Any news on the Hangouts/Chat feature? Our Google contract expires at the end of the year and I want to move our company over but Hangouts is vital for our comms so it will stop us from moving over. You have ticked every box bar this one... Please

Any updates? Simply a matriy homeserver?

There are already tons of good alternatives. I don't think we need another one.

the integration of an instant messaging application such as threema; no registration, just an activation code that is renewed every time you uninstall, end-to-end encryption, no storage on servers only on the local device such as the app session, the files received remain encrypted until the user decides to decrypt, The appropriate thing is to be able to link proton drive and two-factor authentication, you can refine the idea and this can be incredible

- name could be ProtonChat or Threema by Proton or ProtonThreema
- 0 trust 0 logs forward-only 1 on 1 and little groups messenger is very light on servers
- it would give threema what’s more needed for chats: a userbase
- it would easily surpass signals because: Swiss based, no number required, on proprietary servers instead of AWS
- it would give you much more privacy credit because we all know mail is bad for metadata and not even a judge can ask you to track people on a signal like system
- it’s the solution needed for doctors, lawyers and all the pro that use WhatsApp right now lol
- MAYBE could be integrated with some features of proton drive, if it doesn’t break the 0 trust threat model.Another possibility is to make an overlays net like simplex is planning or like chwt (on TOR), with the difference that you already own all the nodes for the hopping, thanks to protonvpn providers

Don't create another Signal, nobody's gonna use it.
Instead, create a Matrix homeserver and client, so you can chat with any other Matrix user.

Hello, any update?

Make it so that one can chat/message another without the other person having to download the app also. End to end encryption regardless of whether both parties have the app.

But please with proper multi-device-support. I hate the lazy way WhatsApp has done it with WhatsApp Web and the required constant connection to your phone. And somehow apps like Signal and Threema just copied this behavior (Signal even worse with no chat history). I want it to be like Telegram, but with E2EE and on the servers of a company I trust.

My team has been using slack for several years, but it has lots of glitches. I'd much rather pay for Proton Mail's secure option than continue with our messy slack situation.

real need for this app to round out the proton suite and get away from other apps that are/may comprise our conversations.

I'd love to dump the multiple chat clients. I could at least replace signal with this and hopefully Google Hangouts/Chat and nextcloud chat.

If you add an IM facility I will drop all my other email and messaging accounts and work entirely with Proton. I need a SECURE joined up email and messaging service!

ProtonMail could follow in mailbox.org's footsteps and integrate an XMPP server, thus making one's ProtonMail address also one's XMPP address.
Rather than becoming yet another centralized chat server that only works for ProtonMail users, Proton could join an already established decentralized and federated network, instantly allowing ProtonMail users to connect with mailbox.org, Snikket, Quicksy, Hot-Chilli, and numerous other XMPP users all across the world.
Or they could partner with Snikket's XMPP hosting, like Cheogram has done.
