Proton Chat - Messaging app
Let's make it in some math style:
ProtonMail : Gmail = ProtonChat : Hangouts
:)
Secure private chat same principle of secure email, but applied to chats.

Don't do this. Signal already exists. Maybe ask them how to more tightly integrate protonmail.

Seeing the latest news today re the Whatsapp Hack, I really think a much more secure version of WhatsApp is required. I suggest a name "ProChat"... I would be willing to pay £100 a year for your version of WhatsApp with its easy interface etc (that would be the magnet). BUT... with Security being the Highest as is your Email. Am sure you would get a large amount of subscribers hopping onboard from Whatsapp. Suggestion(s)...£75 p/yr for current proton email subscribers. Then from renewal (including new subscribers) £100 p/yr. Obviously business etc would pay more. If you already have mail/vpn/chat etc discounts would be given accordingly... I really do think you need to get in on this chat segment now. Kind regards... stay safe from RM29918

It would be great to see a nice, encrypted, in-line XMPP Instant Messaging application.

Go for Signal, no need for another messaging app.

So, we have mail, VPN, and now beta drive. Could chat be in the foreseeable future?

Yes! An SMS app that shares PM contacts, encrypted, phone/online. Not based in Five Eyes. Worth paying for.

it would be nice, but they only can build things, if they have the money to fund them.

Many companies who offer free messenger apps claim that they are private, or encrypted, and cannot be seen by them. Could proton develop their own messenger app, and / or, social media app like Telegram that is extremely private, encrypted, and doesn't require much metadata to log in. Or, the very least, a messenger app, like signal, or Wickr that doesn't require much information to use and it incorporates the use of audio, video, and attachments? And, maybe the use of bots.

Email is important to send formal emails but, for informal chatting with friends we d need something like the hangouts chats on Gmail.

I suggest Theema. It is based in the same country and does not keep PII.

What is the status of this idea now (October 2020)?

I would suggest that Proton should partner with Keybase.

I have been asked if I and other protonmail users can use a group chat feature. Is this possible?

Idk what he is saying about hybrids but a chat app made by proton based on discords design would be awesome.

I am trying to learn some of the features with my new protonmail account. I was created 3 folders and was prompted that I was not allowed to create a 4th. Is there a limitation of only 3 folders in proton mail?
