1. Standard notes backup (Only if there were changes)

   When your setting up your backups in standard notes it will backup regardless if you have even changed anything since the last backup. It should back up only if there are changes since the last backup.

   I am a long-time Proton user and supporter of your mission to build privacy-respecting alternatives to Big Tech. I'm writing to propose a significant expansion of the Proton Workspace ecosystem.

   Current Gap:
   Proton Workspace currently offers excellent encrypted communication and file storage, but lacks native financial/accounting capabilities. Businesses must use third-party US-based accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho), creating data leakage points where sensitive financial information is exposed to entities that monetize user data through advertising and third-party sharing.

   Proposal:
   Develop an end-to-end encrypted accounting/bookkeeping module integrated with Proton Workspace featuring:

   1. Invoice & Receipt Management

      • E2EE storage of all financial documents
      • OCR scanning with private AI processing (client-side or encrypted-server-side)
      • No metadata sold to advertisers or data brokers

   2. Transaction & Expense Tracking

      • Bank API integrations with privacy-preserving protocols
      • Automated categorization using Lumo AI (trained only on user-consented data)
      • Zero-knowledge architecture ensuring Proton cannot access financial data

   3. Customer Data Protection

      • Client PII encrypted with zero-access keys
      • GDPR-compliant data handling throughout
      • No third-party data sharing even for "analytics" purposes

   4. AI-Powered Financial Insights

      • Private dashboard queries ("What were my top expenses last quarter?")
      • Cash flow projections without sending data to external servers
      • Tax preparation summaries generated locally or via encrypted API

   5. Compliance & Interoperability

      • Multi-jurisdiction tax law support (EU VAT, US Sales Tax, etc.)
      • Export compatibility with existing formats for migration scenarios
      • Audit trails with cryptographic verification

   Why Proton?

3. Proton Pass should have permanent storage even for inactive accounts

   Vault (password manager) data are critically important and can't be lost, losing vault data is losing all access to all things.

   Some vault software such as Bitwarden has the permanent storage even for inactive accounts, and that's the supposed-to-be way.

   There are these 2 situation:
   - User using both Proton Mail and Proton Pass
   - User using only Proton Pass

   For the first situation
   - User will access email everyday and the inactivity rule never applies
   - And thus Proton Pass data are sure there

   For the 2nd situation
   - User may use Proton Pass for access, eg. web
   - But there is a case that all sites are authenticated
   - and even for a year (may happen), no need to use Proton Pass
   - Now it's inactive and the vault data are deleted

   Losing vault data as said above is disaster,
   I guess Proton account should not be closed due to inactivity,
   data of other Proton apps can be wiped due to inactivity,
   but Proton Pass must be permanent.

4. Idrive / backblaze alternative

   As a proton user I want a reliable encrypted automated cloud backup solution that offers versioning of files and folders (and possibly a complete image) of my personally device (e.g. MacBook) so that I have a reliable and secure offsite disaster recovery option and ability to restore accidentally deleted files or recover from ransomeware.

   The reality for home users there are really only 3 options (none of which are any good): carbonite, Backblaze and Idrive. Proton drive is nice but it is a sync solution and not true disaster recovery solution. It also does not necessarily offer enough storage.so it would be great if Proton could expand its current product family to include a truly secure online disaster recovery solution for devices. Preferably with fine grain control as to what gets backed up and for how long version history of backups is maintained

5. PIN for mobile mail app

   Hi. I really like Proton apps, but I am shocked that there is still no PIN protection for mobile mail app (I use Android). If smartphone gets unlocked then someone could read e-mail, please fix this ASAP.

6. Add custom HEX code entry and colour wheel to text formatting toolbar

   Especially when to sections such as Signature creation.

   The current colour selection for text, background highlighting, and hyperlinks is far too restrictive.
   Please add a custom HEX input box (#FFFFFF) and a standard RGB colour wheel picker to the rich text editor. This functionality is vital for business accounts that must precisely match text and links to their established brand colour guidelines.
   The current limited generic options are extremely poor!

9. Sync too slow

   I have ~700GB data on my drive. Syncing a new pc to keep everything locally takes days. and that with 1GBit/s internet. That's just way too slow.

11. Guest mode to the Windows desktop client

    The Windows app requires account login before connecting, but in heavily censored regions like mainland China, the authentication request itself is blocked by the Great Firewall — making it impossible to log in without already having a VPN. This creates a deadlock: can't connect without logging in, can't log in without a connection. The Android app solves this with its "Continue as guest" mode, which skips authentication entirely. Please bring the same guest mode to the Windows desktop client, so users in restrictive network environments can at least establish a first connection without needing to authenticate against blocked servers.

12. Dark theme for loading and login pages

    Liked so far the overall dark theme but I think it still miss some features, i.e. the login page and the loading page flash a white&bright page, so it's kinda annoying the switch between light and dark page.
    The idea is that if the login/loading pages detect that you are using dark theme on the browser or in the OS, then there is no such a light pages.

13. Enhance Screen Reader Accessibility of Proton Web and Windows Apps

    As a user who relies on screen reader technology to access technology, I have found that the Proton iOS apps are generally well designed for use with Apple's native screen reader, VoiceOver, but the same cannot be said of the web versions of their apps and especially the Windows apps, which are in some cases almost entirely inaccessible for screen reader users.
    As a starting point, take what I imagine is your most popular core product, Proton VPN. The Proton VPN Windows app has numerous significant accessibility problems that make many basic features very hard to use and other features nearly impossible without sighted assistance.
    Some specific recommendations to start out:
    - Use standard Windows controls that comply with MSAA (Microsoft Active Accessibility) standards. These should just work out-of-the-box, more or less, and not require too much manual effort to make more accessible.
    - Ensure all your controls - buttons, tabs, links, menus, dropdowns, combo boxes, radio buttons, checkboxes etc - follow a logical tab order so that a user using the keyboard can easily navigate among controls on a view.
    - Ensure that all form controls (like those mentioned above) are clearly labeled with text that can be read by a screen reader. If the control doesn't contain any visual text (such as a magnifying glass icon as a search button), use alt text that will be detected and announced by screen readers.
    - Implement more comprehensive keyboard navigation support and make it easy for users to discover these keyboard commands. Usually, apps show a dialog of keyboard shortcuts when the user presses the question mark key.
    - Specifically, implement F6 to move from one section of the app to the next and shift+F6 to move to the prior section. Sections might be the main panel where connection info is displayed, the side bar, other distinct areas of the screen.

15. A Proton Podcast Player

    There's currently no good option (particularly from a privacy perspective) for a podcast app that can use custom RSS feeds as well as podcast addict on android.

    A cross-platform service that allows syncing podcast progress, can use private password protected feeds, and is privacy first would be a game changer in that space.

16. Allow shared caledar to be set as primary

    Currently a calendar shared with your account cannot be set as the default or primary calendar, so if you want to have a family calendar where everyone's events are added automatically, only the first user to create the calendar will have this functionality.

17. we are actually signed in

    On my phone i open proton app and i am not signed in....

    I open another proton app... i am not signed in... i open another proton app and i can actually use that to go to the previous mentioned app as i am logged in... i am using a different app to get access to the app that i am not logged in???

    On destop is the same.

    i open proton and i am not logged in for whatever reason, despite anything i chose i am logged in.

18. Privacy issues with Zendesk reports, need for improvement

    Currently when using report a problem, A support ticket is created via Zendesk to my personal Proton Address.

    I don't like sharing my Personal proton address with zendesk. I have been using it by giving it no one, literally no-one and utilize aliases (SL premium) on a full scale.

    Give me an option to set a custom alias or generate a random one on demand as in SimpleLogin premium with which I can use to submit reports across all proton apps. This must be extended to others

    To have true privacy I need to go through hoops in support page and find a support form where I can use custom alias to protect privacy with zendesk without leaking. I think privacy focused protonmail should also apply Principle of Least Privilege in privacy context.

    SimpleLogin did a splendid way of implementing aliases for reports even before Proton-SL merger. I think it MUST be applied to all Proton Products.

    Fine,Proton uses Zendesk as it is ease of use. But you must give me a choice to mask my email. Less entity knowing about the data is less chance of leak or spread.

    Premium users can generate randomly everytime while free users can have single alias pinned just for support requests.

    This will be highly useful in case of Bug reports where people won't be sharing personal info mostly. At the same time privacy for users.

    I trust Proton but I do not Trust ZenDesk. A trustless model from the ground-up would be better way of winning.

    Currently getting i.e. google takeout downloads to Drive is, uh, sorry, ...not very good. Photos should allow folders upload, not just image file uploads. Please :)

    Excerpt from get.new: .new is a domain extension exclusively for performing new actions online: any act that leads to creation can have a quick and memorable new shortcut associated with it. Help your customers take action faster. Less time clicking means more time creating.

    It would be extremely convenient to use proton.new for creating things in Proton. Everything I can think of:
    proton.new/doc - New document
    proton.new/sheet - New sheet
    proton.new/mail & proton.new/email - New email
    proton.new/event - New calendar event
    proton.new/meeting - New meeting

    I think the plural forms of the words should work, too: doc & docs, event & events, etc. You could also use the subdomain for this: docs.proton.new, mail.proton.new, etc.

    proton.new by itself or with an invalid path (proton.new/whatever) should lead to a dashboard where you can quickly select whether you are creating a new email, document, etc.
