2. Quick Drop Down menu or search bar when clicking on the pass icon on mac

   Quick Drop Down menu or search bar when clicking on the pass icon on top menu on the mac when proton pass is running. 1password has a good implementation of this. This help you quickly search for a password when you are not within a browser without opening the giant main app window.

4. Add optional Secret Service (D-Bus) key provider for pass-cli on desktop Linux (KWallet / GNOME Keyring)

   Body:
   On Linux, Pass CLI defaults to PROTON_PASS_KEY_PROVIDER=keyring. According to the docs, this uses kernel key retention (kernel keyring) on Linux to avoid relying on D-Bus in headless/server environments.
   Because kernel secrets are cleared on reboot, this causes a forced logout after every reboot even on desktop systems:

   • Login works
   • Reboot
   • Next run: "Local encryption key not found but session exists. Forcing logout … Run pass-cli login again."`

   This is expected with kernel keyring, but it’s not a good desktop experience. On KDE/GNOME desktops, org.freedesktop.secrets (Secret Service) is available via D-Bus and users already rely on KWallet / GNOME Keyring for persistent secrets.

   Feature request:

   1. Add an optional key provider that stores the local encryption key in Freedesktop Secret Service (D-Bus), e.g.
      • PROTON_PASS_KEY_PROVIDER=secret-service (name up to you), or
      • automatically use Secret Service when available, and fall back to kernel keyring only in headless environments.
   2. Improve the forced-logout UX by explicitly explaining the cause and the correct variable name:
      • Mention that Linux keyring uses kernel secret storage and secrets are cleared on reboot
      • Suggest alternatives in the error message (fs/env) and document the exact env vars (PROTON_PASS_KEY_PROVIDER, PROTON_PASS_ENCRYPTION_KEY, etc.)

   Why this matters:
   Many desktop users do not want filesystem (fs) or environment (env) key storage for security reasons, but also don’t want to re-authenticate after every reboot. Secret Service would solve this on desktops while keeping kernel keyring as a robust default for servers/containers.

8. After deleting a Proton Auth, save credentials for up to 48h before permanent deletion.

   The other app (Authy) has a feature that when you delete an authy it stores it for up to 48h. This ensures that if you delete something it doesnt cause a permanent mess. Proton Authentificator should add the same feature, saving credentials 48h after deletion.

10. Emergency access - allow non-proton accounts

    My emergency contact doesn't have a proton account nor do I think we should force them to have one. This feature is therefore useless to me.

    In an emergency, the last thing I want my contact doing is having to remember how to log in to a service they never use. This should be a genuinely useful feature, and I hope not a feature to leverage obtaining new users.

11. REQUIRE hardware key for login

    I’d really like it easy to set it so that my account cannot be logged into, not one single proton app used AT ALL, unless I have authenticated THAT session with a hardware key. As Proton enters ecosystem mode, it becomes even more tempting as a target for hackers.

12. Offline version of Proton Pass

    To align with Keepass and strongbox, it would be helpful to have an offline version of Proton Pass. There are still some passwords that I do not carry on my phone because I do not wish to run the risk of losing the phone and have all passwords compromised. Those passwords stay home on an offline file reducing the exposure if a compromise happens.

15. Ability to Choose a Default Email for Auto-Fill

    Hello,

    I would like to request a new feature in Proton Pass.
    Currently, the auto-fill function always selects my Proton email address, even when I want to use my personal email.
    I tried creating a new identity with my personal email, but auto-fill still defaults to my Proton address.

    It would be very helpful to have an option to set a default email address for auto-fill, or to manually choose which email should be prioritized.

    I have two related requests:

    1.: Add a QR‑code field for loyalty cards. This would let users access their loyalty cards directly from Proton Pass, so they wouldn’t have to carry the physical cards all the time.

    2.: Enable opening attachments directly in the app without downloading them. For security reasons it would be ideal to view an image or PDF right inside the app, avoiding the need to store the file on the device—where it’s easy to forget to delete it later. This feature would also solve the first request.

    Ein QR‑Code‑Feld für Kundenkarten hinzufügen. Damit könnten Nutzer ihre Kunden‑ bzw. Treuekarten direkt in Proton Pass verwenden und müssten die physischen Karten nicht ständig bei sich tragen.

    Anhänge direkt in der App öffnen können, ohne sie herunterladen zu müssen. Aus Sicherheitsgründen wäre es ideal, ein Bild oder eine PDF sofort innerhalb der App anzusehen, anstatt die Datei auf dem Gerät zu speichern – wo man leicht vergisst, sie später zu löschen. Diese Funktion würde gleichzeitig das erste Anliegen lösen.

20. Native-feeling Mac app

    There is a currently a Mac app but it is really unpleasant to use — it feels like a port of an app from another platform.

    • Does not provide native macOS autofill, instead requires a browser extension
    • No tabs or windows
    • No keyboard shortcuts, you have to rely on the mouse for everything, not even ⌘, for preferences
    • No “rubber band” scrolling which is a basic macOS feature that literally every app has
    • With an item selected, up and down arrows scroll a bit instead of moving the selection
    • Cannot right click an entry to act on it (delete, move, duplicate, ...)
      • Oh wait, you can't even duplicate items?
    • Menu bar items are basically the bare minimum — not even a help menu
    • Does not do basic UX things I'd expect literally any app to do, like remembering your sort order between lock and unlock

    This feels like a port of a Windows app, not a true Mac app. The result is that is it difficult to use efficiently.

    Ideally Proton would improve usability by making the app conform to basic macOS conventions.
