Username Generator
Some websites just don't need to know a name that can identify you across services. Being able to generate usernames for these cases is very useful.
Example: On Uservoice I just wanna upvote ideas that I like. The choice of username changes nothing. Therefore a randomized, meaningless name is preferable to stay anonymous.
That's why I used Bitwarden's username generator for this. Proton Pass should have one too

this would be awesome, especially if we can set a list of prefixes we like to use or suffixes for it to pull from, instead of random words and numbers, similar to what John Doe suggested a few comments back, but with more granular control. for example, i'd use things like nebula, black hole, supernova, etc, space themed things, for things i plan to use but don't much care about the username.

Yes, very important, and have a field for the username AND email alias. I have to save a note with the login for the username when signing in via email address isn't allowed.

This is an important feature. Proton Pass could implement username generation by expanding the "Generate Alias" button in the Email or username field to allow the user to select a simple login alias or generate a good username on the fly. If the user enables the username field, then the username generator should only offer the option to generate a username and not an alias.
The Proton team can do this better than existing password managers by allowing flexibility to usernames generated. Please do not add username generation based only on one random word (e.g., sorcery). Instead, allow the user to at least generate two random words as username e.g., sorceryrampant and (as a bonus) it could be great to add numbers at the end e.g., sorceryrampant784. This would make Proton Pass have the most robust username generator in the Password Manager space.
Thanks!

Usernames can be identifiers that breach user privacy and/or anonymity. It is OFTEN difficult for me to create usernames for different websites. If Proton Pass could generate usernames along with passwords, it would be helpful for me.

This is the only thing keeping me from leaving Bitwarden and adopt Pass. Please implement this, it just a couple of lines of JavaScript in the GUI. :-)
I understand the use for the pass aliases but it's not something I want to use. The reason aliases don't work for me is because it decreases portability of my domain/mail services for me. A plus addressed email would require me to set up a single mailbox wherease porting all aliases would be a much bigger hassle or even require a catch-all... yikes.

I would really like this. For the moment I generate a short memorable password and then use that as a username.
I think this could be solved easily by just adding a button next to the username field that generates it.

Dear ProtonPass Team,
ProtonPass currently lacks a username generator, which would help users create unique and secure usernames. Many password managers, including LastPass and NordPass, already offer this feature, making it easier to generate usernames without relying on personal information.
A good username generator should include:
Customizable length (up to 50 characters)
Character set options (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols)
Ability to generate completely random usernames
Option to add a keyword at the end
Leetspeak conversion (e.g., h3110w0r1d)
Adding this functionality would improve security, privacy, and usability in ProtonPass. Please consider implementing it in a future update.

I'd prefer to not have to open a different service just to generate a username

Due to the absence of this feature in Proton Pass, I am compelled to utilize public websites like LastPass for creating usernames for accounts. It would be greatly appreciated if this functionality were incorporated into Proton Pass.

Yes! I used this feature a lot in Bitwarden and have now lost this in ProtonPass.
User name generation (as well as personal private domain, e.g. uservoice@mydomain.com) was a key feature and I really would like it back.

I agree completely. Came to write this feature request and saw there was already one in place.
This would be incredibly helpful. As mentioned, many services require a name and at least ZIP code to sign up for the service, even when there’s no practical reason (from the user’s perspective) for this information.
I end up going to either:
https://www.fakepersongenerator.com/
https://www.fakenamegenerator.com/ (A Google service IIRC)This gives me what I want, but it’s an annoying extra step.
The point isn’t to be nefarious about it, but I don’t like giving my real information if I don’t see the clear reason for it.
I think Proton Pass offering this service would be a tremendous aid for those of us who already practice this form of privacy but would also make adoption of some additional privacy practices flourish along those who just find it too burdensome.
