Many people ask for having real folders, so they don't get their inbox cluttered even when auto-labelling (filtering) mails and so they are still able to find non-filtered mails.
When introducing filters it would be great to introduce an 'unlabelled' label along the existing ones, so while using filters one can still easily find mails that no filters is applied to yet.
While the inbox is still 'cluttered' this doesn't really matter because one can find 'new' mails using the 'unlabelled' label.
