    For those who read this and came to the conclusion that Proton is "using Google", it's my understanding that this post is simply referring to importing data from an old gmail account into Proton. The concern was that this links your new Proton account to your old Google account in their records, which is realistic in my opinion.

    This doesn't mean that Proton is relying on Google for any functionality. That's just an onboarding shortcut.

    It may be better to have good guides on how to manually export data from Google, and import it into Proton.
