This is most important because I don't have enough space to back up my full 800GB library but instead I would like to backup just my favorites folder (see how Immich permits the inclusion/exclusion of photos in backup based on the folder)

I think the issue is likely that the password is used for decryption. What would be perfect is if upon enabling Two-password mode, there is an option to forgo the login password+mfa followed with the decryption password and just go straight to passwordless login followed by the decryption password. Then two-password mode would become passwordless login followed by password decryption.
That's the UX that I would hope for but I assume it can't/won't happen until all the various apps on all platforms support passkeys.
Please not just for drive. A full-blown "takeout" should include data from ALL proton services. How I would love to see this implemented is a nice bundled backup file that contains all encrypted data and then a companion tool/script to decrypt everything after punching in the decryption password. I recognize that that may be tricky to do server-side (I have no idea how the DBs are architected or how hard it would be to convert to a portable format).
Another way could be a "Proton Backup Utility" that authenticates to the APIs then pulls everything and decrypts client-side before storing in a portable format. Something like that may be easier to implement, easier to use, and more useful as I could run it on my server or PC and make backups to my NAS or USB drive as I see fit.
