It would be nice if an external non-Proton user could send an S/MIME encrypted message to my Proton mail address, which I could then decrypt using an external mail programme connected via the Proton bridge. The Proton Mail system should behave completely transparently for this S/MIME message. Of course, the message cannot be decrypted within the Proton Mail system, as Proton Mail does not support S/MIME. However, this is not necessary as the decryption is carried out by the external mail client, such as Thunderbird. It should work the same way in the opposite direction so that you can also reply to the message in S/MIME encrypted form.
