I have 20+ years of email in Thunderbird folders. To use Proton Mail I moved everything to the Thunderbird local account and placed filters in the Proton account: 1) it copies everything from the Proton inbox to local inbox then moves to trash, and 2) it copies anything sent from Proton to local sent.
I like the ability to read email via web and PC. I do not use the android app because it does not have previous/next when displaying emails but web does. If I want to find an email over the last 30 days via web I scroll through trash. The web login persists on my phone and tablet not requiring log in each time.
Please provide POP3 functionality so I can do away with this complexity.
I like Proton Mail for the security and MFA auth, which no one else has allowing me to use Thunderbird with MFA on my PC. This is worth whatever complexity dealing with IMAP.
