I’d like to propose a feature that extends Proton’s privacy ecosystem: embedded phone number protection, similar to how email aliases currently work in Proton Mail and comparable to Mozilla’s Firefox Relay.
Allow users to generate proxy phone numbers that forward calls and SMS to their real number—without exposing it. These numbers could be:
- Created on demand (like email aliases)
- Managed within the Proton dashboard
- Enabled/disabled or deleted anytime
Key Use Cases
- Signing up for services without sharing your real number
- Protecting against spam, tracking, and data leaks
- Temporary numbers for marketplaces, travel, or one-time verifications
Features
- Seamless integration with Proton Pass
- Labeling and organizing numbers (like aliases)
- SMS forwarding (and optionally call forwarding or voicemail)
- Auto-expiration or manual deactivation
