  1. Sorting by date, sender, subject, subject A to Z or Z to A

Every other email I've used allows sorting by date, sender, subject. A to Z or Z to A (not the same as filtering by key word)

  2. *Unlimited* Disposable Email Aliases

(to vote for unlimited alias, visit https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/284483/suggestions/45394132)

Startmail explains it perfectly. They offer unlimited disposable aliases, which expire within a given amount of time. They also offer custom aliases which can be saved and used indefinitely.

It is the disposable alias which will help protect privacy, when submiting an email to an untrusted recipient. After all, how much privacy do we have if our fixed emails become the foundation for building and selling our marketing profiles, just as is done by gmail. We limit personal activity virtual trails by disposing of aliases for casual uses. But, unlike custom aliases,…

Attachments are not always worth keeping, so please add ability to delete selected attachments as an alternative to simply downloading them.

  5. When Archiving, Mark as Read

Along with making archiving from the message viewer on the app easier, when those emails are archived they should be marked as read.

    Thanks!

  6. Store zero-access encrypted emails as PGP/MIME

I noticed that when viewing raw emails with the “View headers” feature, they are stored as essentially PGP/Inline emails, which causes trouble when dealing with HTML emails and emails with attachments.

It would be better if, upon receipt of an unencrypted email, ProtonMail wrapped the entire message in an encrypted PGP/MIME container, which would preserve any Content-Types and allow for easier future exporting of PGP-encrypted inboxes without having to deal with the issues that come with PGP/Inline. This would also enable possible future IMAP/POP3 support of the raw, encrypted emails without the ProtonMail Bridge, leaving the decryption up to individual…

  8. Popout composer window

It would be great if the composer window could popout to its own window, not just be popup or full screen size inside the window. On a laptop, it conceals too much of the inbox messages, which are nice to consult when writing an email.

  9. IPv6 (at least between the bridge and the PM servers)

IPv6 adoption is growing faster than it used to and has reached 25 %. It's high time you implemented IPv6, at least between the ProtonMail Bridge + App and your servers. Providers like UPC already dumped native IPv4 and offer only Carrier grade NAT.

  10. PLEASE make it easy for me to tell ProtonMail that a message is NOT Spam

It is already annoying when ProtonMail dumps a valid message into the spam folder. You refuse to give users the option to turn off the spam filter (Why???? - Why take that choice away from users?)

I want a single button that I can immediately select that says (THIS IS NOT SPAM!) As far as I can tell, I have to go hunt down the spam interface, re-learn your UI, and manually type in the email address (and it is NOT EASY to cut-and-paste an email address) and go through a bunch of awkward steps.

    Please address this problem ---…

  11. make protonmail faster

    Search is slow
Deleting multiple (15+) emails is slow
    Emptying the trash is slow

This service is so slow that I'd rather just let the NSA read my email

  12. Security new feature: RFC 8461 - SMTP MTA Strict Transport Security (MTA-STS)

RFC 8461 - SMTP MTA Strict Transport Security (MTA-STS) is a mechanism enabling mail service providers (SPs) to declare their ability to receive Transport Layer Security (TLS) secure SMTP connections and to specify whether sending SMTP servers should refuse to deliver to MX hosts that do not offer TLS with a trusted server certificate.

This is obviously to secure messages between mail providers, so users benefit from the additional security on transit. This is backed by: Google, Oath ("yahoo"), Comcast, Microsoft... the big company's in the area... so it should be adopted by them.

  13. Improve addressing with extension character; allow hyphen (-); use correct sender address.

    1. Add the use of a hyphen (-) as the extension character, in addition to plus (+). Reasoning is below.

    2. When a message arrives for example-bob@protonmail.com, replies sent by the recipient should automatically show example-bob@protonmail.com as both the header sender and the envelope sender. The reason should be obvious.

Why hyphen (-) in addition to plus (+). The use of plus (+) tells people that you are using an extension, while the use of hyphen (-) makes the address look like an ordinary address.

Many buggy websites reject email addresses that contain a plus.

For additional reasoning see the original…

  14. Columns identifying sender and recipient

In the folders, there needs to be some means to determine who was the sender and who was the recipient. Like separate "from" and "to" columns.

  15. Attachment filter

Would be great if we had the ability to filter for a specific type of attachment, e.g. PDF, .doc, etc.

Currently, when trying to search for an attachment, search results will populate any type of attachment, such as an signature. This can make it very hard to find specific documents/attachments in a chain of emails, which might have attached email signatures on every single incoming and outgoing email.

  16. sync Android notifications properly

When getting a mail, we receive notification on mobile. If we read the mail from web, it does not clear the notification on mobile.

worse: sometime, I got a mail on web, read it, and got a notification on mobile nonetheless.

  19. Proton Mail MacOS app

For MacOS, for more protection, we should get a new MacOS app for ProtonMail. This is a more simple way of using ProtonMail instead of visiting the website or creating new encryption methods for existing mail apps (such as apple mail).

  20. Support for Spark Email Client

It would be great to get support for Spark. If you're unfamiliar with Spark by Readdle, you can check it out here: https://sparkmailapp.com/

I have 10+ email accounts that I manage with Spark. It supports every single type of mail service there is, but because of ProtonMail's security and encryption, they are currently not compatible. Gmail, Exchange, iCloud, everything but ProtonMail. Would really like to get that working.
