Audio alarms/reminders for events
Very few calendar apps allow you to set an alarm for the event that has an audible reminder like an alarm clock app would. This would be super helpful so I don't accidentally overlook an event.

As a paying Proton Mail Plus customer, I strongly support this feature request.
I'm currently transitioning from Google Calendar to Proton Calendar, but the lack of proper appointment alarms is a significant obstacle.
On my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, calendar reminders only produce a short notification sound lasting approximately three seconds. Even after configuring a dedicated notification sound through Android's notification settings, there is no option to make the alarm continue until acknowledged.
FIVE SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS FOR PROTON CALENDAR:
1. PERSISTENT ALARMS
An optional alarm mode that continues ringing until manually dismissed or snoozed, rather than playing a notification sound only once.2. CUSTOMISABLE ALARM SOUNDS
Dedicated calendar alarm sounds, independent of Android's standard notification settings, with adjustable volume and duration.3. FULL-SCREEN REMINDERS
Prominent appointment alerts that appear over other applications and on the lock screen, ensuring important reminders are difficult to overlook.4. SNOOZE FUNCTIONALITY
The ability to postpone an alarm by 5, 10 or 15 minutes, with the reminder sounding again afterwards.5. PER-EVENT ALARM SETTINGS
The option to choose between a standard notification and a persistent alarm for individual appointments, so users can decide which events require stronger reminders.Samsung Calendar already offers a Strong alert mode, demonstrating that persistent appointment alarms are technically achievable on Android.
PRIVACY SHOULD NOT COME AT THE EXPENSE OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONALITY.
I specifically chose Proton for its commitment to privacy and encryption. Having to install third-party notification management applications with access to notification content undermines that choice.
I genuinely want to replace Google Calendar entirely and use Proton Calendar across my Android phone and Windows computers. However, reliable appointment reminders are essential, and the current limitations make it difficult to depend on Proton Calendar for important appointments.
This feature request was originally submitted in June 2021, so I sincerely hope the Proton Calendar development team will consider giving it renewed attention.
Could the Proton team also clarify whether improved alarm functionality is already planned or being considered for the development roadmap?

This is critical for me for tablets required 3 times daily & appointments, etc. I currently use iiNet for that reason but will change to a paid Proton Mail & Calendar if it’s available.

Android users can set notification sounds for specific apps. So can Windows and Linux users; don't know about iOS.
If Proton could provide crossover functionality for mobile and desktop OSes, I don't think they need to build out an integrated audio reminder feature that requires additional complexity and permissions. -

I keep missing my meetings! Please allow us to make the sound longer, more distinctive, and persistent (until I stop it would be best). I want to use Proton Calendar exclusively, but currently I still have to duplicate my meetings in Apple Alarms (Clock) so I receive a persistent, unmissable notification. In Proton Calendar, this setting could be available within the settings for each event created (like where notification timing is setup).

This is the single most important thing I'm missing on Proton Calendar at the moment, making it hard for me to commit to using it. Please, Proton team, can we get eyes on this issue? There are so many open tickets about this same issue so clearly it's important to more than just a handful of people.

I totally concur with this. However, I'm thinking of it in context with the Android calendar app. The simple notification is too easy to miss. I find myself continuing to be tempted to go back to samsung calendar, because it has more robust alarm-features which are difficult to miss. I want to use proton calendar (for android) as my primary calendar app... but the truth is that the simple notifications it gives are far too easy to miss, or be interrupted or accidentally silenced by random or unexpected things. Much more attention needs to be given to updating the android calendar app notifications to being impossible to ignore or fail to notice. Currently, the android proton calendar notification can be dismissed by nearly anything, even interrupted in the middle of making its notification sound, which will never be heard again. It's a glaring problem that breaks the whole point of using it as my primary calendar.

For some calendar events, a simple phone notification is not enough because we already gets so many other less meaningful notifications on our phones. We need an actual alarm option for a notification so that we don't miss our appointments, etc. PLEASE add this. Thanks!

I support this request and I add sound AND vibration like any standard alarm. 😉

Totally agree. I have a terrible short term memory and rely on audible alert noises for timekeeping. Imagine my disappointment when after migrating everything to proton calendar and then I realise I missed something important because they only options are email or a toast type notification which I get for literally anything like an email or a message.

Firstly, huge thank you to the proton team for the calender! I love it and with the calendar rollout I will most likely be subscribing to a paid service. Android devices default clock app can only set alarms up to 23:59 ahead of time. I would love to be able to enter my work schedule once a week and set wake up alarms for the whole week, instead of doing it every night, possibly forgetting.*note* - I am aware that there are notifications available for the proton calendar android app, but the single ding will not wake me up. I prefer an alarm with snooze and dismiss options.

200% agree. The built in alarm options are useless. "Popup Notification" and "Email"?
If you had to write down a list of 1000 things that you associate with the word "alarm", a popup or an email would not even be on the list.
However, a loud audible sound would be #1.
Whenever I create an event that I absolutely must be reminded of, I always create an alarm for ~10-30min before the event. It's an annoying hassle, and I end up with dozens of alarms, but it works and really helps me to not forget events.
It always frustrated me that Google refused to implement this, even though they wrote GCal and the Android alarm app, and it probably would have taken one of their devs 30 minutes to link them together.

I fully agree. Without an acoustic notification it's only worth the half.

This is the single most important feature for me to use Proton Calendar on Android. I need the Android device to ring an alarm and not just a notification for calendar event notifications. The alarm feature can be minimal and use the system default. Future feature would be good if user can set a different alarm sound for the Proton Calendar, or different alarm sound for different events.
For Google Calendar I use separate app "Event Reminder" (Milan Sillik) to ring alarm on Google Calendar event notifications. It appears that Event Reminder does not recognize Proton Calendar notifications.

Calendar alarms. I absolutely love all things Proton, and the reminders (multiple too!) are fantastic. Am I missing something, or do we not have alarms with the reminders? Even though I have most devices within my immediate vicinity, I'm usually quite focused on multiple tasks... pop-ups are great, but accompanying alarms are even better. =)
So sorry, in advance, if I'm missing something and this is already a feature. = s
