Open event location on mapping site/app (google, apple, open street maps)
Currently, the location icon and address data in a Proton Calendar appt. does nothing. It would be nice if clicking on it would open a map program such as Google Maps to get directions to appt.

One year later, and we are still here. Just like photo album public link sharing. Proton does nothing to implement core features that are important to existing users.

I often use this fonction on ical to reach my next meeting place.
For the moment proton calendar doesn't help me on this subject. I had to share my proton calendars with ical but I must always switch between the two apps to update/modify the events -

Most calendars are able to lookup addresses when I add an appointment to the calendar. Proton Calendar does not and as I am often going from appointment to appointment this prevents me from using my Proton calendar. From my, currently, iCloud calendar I tap the address in an appointment and then it opens my desired navigation app to navigate me to that location as well as calculating what my expected travel time will be.
Could it be added so that one can search the actual address in the 'location' field of a calendar event?

We don't need it to integrate with any particular map or app. But the fact that the address is currently just a simple text field makes for a terrible experience. I would like to be able to type in an address and have it help me select an existing location (which, speaking from ignorance, I understand you can set up your own OSM server and thus make the functionality completely private between users and the Proton server).
Then, when you click on the address field, it should open your default map app (or offer you the possible map apps that can open that link—e.g., Waze, Google Maps, etc.).It seems minor, but this is very basic but important. It saves you a lot of clicks.

I also suggested this feature to the Proton team through a parallel channel. Unlike Google Calendar, it is not possible to automatically open an application of your choice from an address stored in an appointment. You can only copy it. I understand that most people prefer to use Google Maps or Waze for simplicity or laziness, but why not allow other privacy-friendly applications (OpenStreet Map, etc.) to open automatically?
It is with this kind of very practical feature that Proton Calendar would gain popularity -

This would likely require a whole new maps feature (huge project) because google/apple maps are not private.
Maybe CoMaps/OrganicMaps code would be a good starting point?

Would be very nice to click on an address (from a calendar event or from the contacts list), so it allows you to use in a navigation app (if multiple navigation apps are installed, then offer option to select which navigation app

This is essential for being able to get directions to appointments to places you have never been to. Proton Calendar should just contract with a basic mapping API to make this possible. Again, just copy what Google Calendar does. I honestly think if Proton's product strategy was just copy Google Workspace and make it private you would have incredible success

I didn't know that this existed here, but this is so useful for me and what I miss the most from gmail that I sent support a ticket about this. Would like to see a way to put a default template so that I could use whatever mapping service I desire (assuming that I get coordinates, so Proton would have to deal with geolocation service for me.)
Waiting eagerly for this.

It would be absolutely great if the location includes a lookup, though I appreciate it may not be easy to identify a privacy friendly service (OpenStreetMap?) to facilitate the search. But yeah, it would be extra awesome if it hooks into your default navigation app on your mobile device (or ask which app to use on your device).

Please not google. Not if we want to stay within the privacy conscious arena that proton touts. Not forced at all would be great. Being able to choose the map app we use with it would be ideal!

Would love to be able to tap the location in an appointment and have it open my default navigation app (Magic Earth)

One of the main blockers for switching to Proton Calendar for me is the ability to store files and locations to be able to handle reservations and events.

If you enter the destination in the Proton Calender anyway, then the app should also be able to open a navigation app

Best would be if you could choose the maps app you want to use to open the address. Then people can decide themselves whether to use Google Maps, Apple Maps, Osmand, Wave... whatever they have installed

If you use proton, then privacy matters.
Stay away from Location service like Apple and Google. Use Osmand, or Organic Maps or Openstreet maps.

This is one of the top features that make a calendar app useful. As far as the map application, I think that can be handled by having an preference in the app settings.

My choice would be OSMAND, but I like the idea.

I would use Proton Calendar exclusively if only its event location datablock actually worked and functioned like Apple’s. In Apple when creating an event the location for the event will autofill and connect to Apple maps as well. Without that function, Proton Calendar IMHO is pretty much useless.

I really liked this feature in Google Calendar and would love to have it included in Proton Calendar.
