set time zone manually
Proton mail uses the browser time zone for all events and there is not a way to set it manually. I use Librewolf to minimize browser fingerprinting and one of it's features (which is not easy to turn off separately) is that is displays the time zone to websites as Zulu / GMT, instead of local time. This means that calendar events come in with a time shift displayed in email. They are correct in the calendar since Calendar allows you to set the time in the top bar.

Ability to view what core program tasks are in-process
I'm a software developer, and I think of the application of filter rules as core program in-process tasks. The filter is something user-defined, but the invocation and application of that filter is a task enacted by the actual program. Having the ability to view when a core program task is in-process would be beneficial. For example: if I import email from an unsupported client, that could be viewed as a task in an in-program task manager queue; after importing, if I create a filter to send all mail from joe@schmoe.com to my Trash folder and choose to apply it to…

Add a 'Test filter' button when creating mail rules
When creating a filter, please add a “Test” button. Yandex Mail has this feature and it’s extremely convenient.
This way I could immediately see, without leaving the filter editor, whether my rule actually matches emails. Yandex shows a list of messages the filter would apply to.
Right now, many filters don’t work immediately even after saving and checking “apply to existing messages”, so I have to wait and guess whether I configured it correctly. This makes setting up filters slow and frustrating.

A Simple Idea to Stay Organized This Ramadan in Delhi
One simple idea that can make Ramadan smoother is planning your day around accurate prayer and fasting schedules. In a busy city like Delhi, knowing the exact iftar time Delhi helps you break your fast peacefully, while keeping track of sehri time Delhi ensures you start your fast correctly and without rush.
Having both timings in one place makes it easier to plan meals, prayers, work, and family time. It removes daily confusion and lets you focus more on spirituality, reflection, and togetherness during the holy month. A small habit like checking timings daily can truly improve your Ramadan experience.

Allow sieve to access body content by running client side
Sieve is great, but the proton mail implementation is severely limited by the inability to search message content, such as body. This is of course by design, sieve is running on the encrypted emails, so it cannot read the body content, however, it would be nice to do this sometimes. In a similar vein to the local side body search implemented by proton, I propose a client side sieve implementation, that can run in desktop proton to do filtering on unencrypted message content.

Support Linux Mobile on proton-vpn-gtk-app
Hi,
I'd like to request supporting Linux Mobile.
I currently use postmarketOS as my daily driver device and it would be great to support the proton-vpn-gtk-app for Linux Mobile devices.
I think we might need to use libadwaita here in order to make the codebase maintainable for all devices sizes on Linux.
What do you think?
I'd be happy to help with implementing this. I'm a software engineering with extensive open source contribution experience:

Remember or set default mailbox sort
Every time I open Proton Mail I must select my preferred inbox/folder sort. For web, I can bookmark the query parameter, e.g.
https://mail.proton.me/u/0/inbox#sort=date. Still, it's impossible to bookmark a view on Proton Desktop (Mail, Calendar), so I must select my preferred sort manually each time I open the Desktop app.I'd love for Mail to either remember my previously-selected sort, or to allow me to define a default sort.

warn when reply to is different than from
I just had a fishing attempt from someone I know, and the phisher had set the reply-to address to be a different account. I initially did not notice because the To line for reply does not show the email address by default.
It would be good if there was a warning that the reply-to is different than the From address.1 vote -
Separation of Proton and Custom Domain Mailboxes
Currently, Proton email addresses and custom domain addresses share the same mailbox view, which mixes all emails together. This approach feels unintuitive and makes it harder to manage communication across different identities.
I would prefer the ability to separate custom domain email accounts from Proton accounts into distinct mailbox views (or “drawers”). While it’s possible to use filters and folders as a workaround, this requires manually duplicating structure (Inbox, Sent, Drafts, etc.), which quickly leads to a cluttered sidebar and added maintenance overhead.
Would you consider introducing an option to define how email addresses are grouped within the interface? For…

Allow moving UI elements, like archive and trash, to different columns in the mail view
I would like the archive and trash icons to be movable so that I could have them between the multi-select box and the subject/message preview. This would make managing my inbox easier, since the message preview column is quite wide and the archive/delete buttons can be hard to see their relative alignment, especially on large monitors using the webapp.

Dragging e-mail to label also archives
When dragging an e-mail from the inbox to a specific label, it 'moves' the e-mail to this label.
It would be great if the e-mail is also directly archived, so it disappears from the inbox.4 votes -
proton.me addresses are sometimes not recognized as a valid address
I am not sure if there is a solution to this issue. Some retailers and businesses do not recognize proton.me as a valid email address, and I am forced to use a Gmail address.

Modernize/expand the email editor
The email editor should have more formatting functions.
Markdown as input transform to HTML mail with preview function. (This would cover pretty much everything you could need.)
Create and manage tables
More editor functionalities (links from Drive)
Add meetings
Indentation levels (increase/decrease indentation)
The current editor feels like Notepad from Windows 95.

In Windows and Mac add the ability to preview the URL for embedded links
I would like to see a new feature for Windows and Mac users that allows one to preview the URL of an embedded link behind an icon before clicking it. This is an important security feature to evaluate an email for a phishing attack; As it now stands one must right click the icon, copy the link and paste into an text editor to view it.

Allow drag and drop to sort folders/labels outside of "All Settings" menu
Every other email client I’ve used lets you rearrange folders/labels with simple drag and drop. For some reason, Proton requires you to open a separate settings menu just to change folder order, which is incredibly frustrating, especially if you reorganize often.
What’s more confusing is that you can drag and drop default categories like “Inbox,” “Drafts,” and “Sent,” but not your own folders or labels.

Hide email subject in the android app notification
Even with Extended Notifications setting turned off and the app locked the subject of the email is still visible, which completely defeats the purpose of the the app lock. Many services include OTPs or other sensitive information in the subject line of the email which is visible in the notification.
While this can be addressed in the system settings, this is not a solution as those can be changed without unlocking the app.
I propose a setting next to extended notifications that will allow to have the notification show "1 new email" without any information.

Open emails inline in the list instead of reloading the page
When we use the layout 'row' for emails, clicking a message opens it on a separate page and reloads everything. It feels slower and breaks the flow. Check out how Yandex Mail does it: the email expands in place right inside the list without a full page reload. You can scroll up and down and still see the rest of the list. It's super convenient, fast, and there's no need to hit back just to return to the inbox. Plus it looks clean and modern. It would be awesome to have something similar here.

Mark 'Spam' as read
Emails automatically filtered to Spam should be marked as read - not to distract from actual unread emails. Even better, it should be a user-selectable option.
