  1. Do not collect usage diagnostics by default (Mail Bridge)

Proton Mail Bridge has a hidden (advanced) option called «Collect usage diagnostics» which is on by default. I think for an organization like Proton, this option should be disabled by default, even if this data is collected anonymously. Or at least it would be helpful to know what exactly is being collected.

    Thanks

  2. Customize favorite labels in reading action menu

In the web application when reading an email there is an action menu for the email on the screen: "mark as read/unread, move to folder, move to trash, label, filter, etc.".

I would like to be able to choose some favorite labels and have them show up on this menu bar so I don't have to hunt for them in the label menu. Likewise you could use a simple algorithm to show the commonly used labels here as well. I have a lot of labels but tend to apply some frequently and don't have easy logic to be able to…

  3. Auto reply per alias

It should be possible to define automatic responses separately for each alias address.
In most cases, the different addresses are used for different things and therefore require different automatic responses.

  4. Export mailbox as a single file (similiar to PST)

Currently Proton Mail is exporting every mail as a single file as eml and also json files. It would be much better if it can export whole mailbox as a single file, similar or same as PST.

  5. Use vector graphics in official Proton emails (rather than rasterized)

At the bottom of almost every email is a list of all the graphic assets used in the body, of which need to be authorised for viewing before display (unless on a white list).

Why not scrap all of that in your own advertisement emails by using vector based graphics, of which almost all of the assets are anyway.

  6. Auto forwarded emails should be in the sent email folder of the sender

Auto forwarded messages have an additional header, but this doesn't help the sender at all to confirm that an email was actually forwarded. Most senders like me are second guessing that emails are truly forwarding and it would be nice if the receipt of the sent email is listed instead of always confirming with the recipient that they received the email.

Thank you for the consideration to this need.

  7. Reset label search box after selecting label

When I search for a label and apply it, I often want to add a second label as well. It would be great if the search box automatically reset upon selection so that I can immediately search for my second (and third, ...) label.

If it helps: how Gmail does it. This is probably my #1 UX annoyance after switching.

  8. Switch protonmail.com to proton.me

For all usernames, both are blocked, as @pm.me (as reception address) is assigned to them. Some time ago, new users could only choose between @protonmail.ch and @protonmail.com - there was no @proton.me option.

Hence, it would be nice to allow older users using the @proton.me address for sending and receiving - as it already exists on the servers, anyway.

  9. Sort by multiple labels

Love your service. Here's an idea for improvement. I have several email aliases, in addition I have multiple labels as well. Most emails may have more than 1 label, such as "medical" and "receipts". I archive emails for reference later on. In your email "Search In" program, when you select "Other" it only allows 1 selection instead of multiple choices. As an example I would like to search "Archived" and "Medical" and "Receipts". This would return all emails that I've archived with labels relating to medical receipts. Currently the email search only allows 1 other option to be searched limiting…

  10. Full Context search improvements

I prefer to use the web-interface to proton mail rather than Bridge...
The Full Context search is a great option, but it has a few notable issues in my opinion, especially with larger mailboxes.

In my case the download takes quite a while, and if I clear the browser cache this has to be re-done time again. Same goes for multiple devices, etc...

I suggest adding a setting option to the full-context search to let me define the scope of the index by: Number of days (or date) and the folders I want to include.
    This would let me constrain…

  11. Backup & recovery of e-mails including folder structure and labels

The export tool and the import-export app need the ability to keep the folder structure and labels.

After having to restore hundreds of lost e-mails during an account migration I just discovered that the export tool appears to export all emails but not their location (i.e. sent and received e-mails all appear in one folder, and no folder structure whatsoever is exported). Furthermore, the import-export app only allows to restrict an import to a specific time period, but it does not allow to import certain folders from a backup back into the correct destination folders and using the correct source…

  12. Aliases like anything@username.proton.me

    Hi,
As an alternative format to the unlimited aliases using the “+” sign, can you also allow for the following format?: anything@username.proton.me

I think this is a cleaner looking address. Also, although I haven't encountered one .... yet, I have read that some sites that don't allow addresses with the '+' sign in them.
Having only the 'anything' in front of the '@' symbol makes it look cleaner, more professional, easier to identify and looks less like an alias.

  13. ProtonMail leaks my real address when replying to alias received mail and use BCC

    1. I have created an email alias in Proton Pass for Firefox.
    2. I have sent an email to this alias (from different provider) and inside ProtonMail (opened in web browser Firefox) replied that e-mail. During replying, I have also added my other external e-mail into BCC field.
    3. I have received an anonymized reply to main address to which I was replying, good. But the copy sent to BCC address was NOT anonymized.

I think that when i want to remain private under alias, the privacy should be complete, not revealing my real address when BCC or CC(not tested). Will you consider…

  14. Improve usability on wide-screen iPads - persistent folder list

iOS will discontinue PWAs leaving the Proton Mail app the main option to access mails. The main difference between the PWA and the app has been that the folder list is fixed in the PWA, while it moves automatically out in the app, as the app is overwhelmingly used on vertically held mobile phone screens. But for wider iPad screens a small ‚pin needle‘ could allow the user to fix the folder list on the screen leading to a better user experience and an almost identical user experience.

I tried Proton Mail free before buying a subscription and am so disappointed I can't use the paid features on these accounts. I am allowed more than one account with my subscription. Why can't it be the ones I already have and use? Such a pain to have to switch over between

  16. Improved Folder Options

I have two ideas that I think would be great:

    1) The folder automatically sees all the senders added to the folder and a new option (toggle) allows you to automatically add all of them to a rule that automatically sorts the senders into this folder (a check box could allow all current emails to be sorted in as well as all future emails) - this is automatically updated when a new sender is added to the folder. In settings, you can changed the settings for each folder > sender, for example to allow push notifications for a certain sender…

  17. Simplify thread view

please simplify the view of the emails in a thread view or whatever where more emails can be seen at once. as it stands now, it is a bit hard to navigate in emails one has sent. one can make a branch view where when an email is no longer sent to the same people, it branches off. you could call it branch view. it would be the next big thing and would suit ar glasses too.

  18. Preview filter results

I have several sieve filters, and it can be difficult to figure out what's working or not other than to see if the desired result occurred. This processing can be slow, and it can be difficult to distinguish between something not working and something not having happened yet.

I would like the ability to show test what a sieve filter would match.

Gmail's filters are able to easily do this because its search and filter languages are the same. Protonmail's is not. Perhaps they should be unified so we could test filter conditionals based on the sieve query language?

  20. Offer 3 distinct alias types seamlessly within Proton Mail

I pay for the unlimited plan mainly for the SimpleLogin aliases but since using them I've realized there's a benefit to multiple types of aliases and each has its place.

I would love to see Proton Mail offer 3 types of aliases to better compete with Fastmail's aliases and masked emails (they're great!):

    1. Standard alias (or additional email addresses). These are great when you want full control of the address because you may hand it out or it's intended to be used regularly as a receiver and a sender. These are also useful if a service denies the known SimpleLogin…
