make protonmail faster
Search is slow
Deleting multiple (15+) emails is slow
Emptying the trash is slow
This service is so slow that I'd rather just let the NSA read my email

To improve actions like deleting, accepting invitations, etc., you could implement "optimistic response" pattern. It seems to me that a lot of time is used because the UI waits for a server response and then updates it. If you instead optimistically update the UI and roll it back in case of an error (Which should be quite rare), the UI becomes quite snappy.

I think security is the priority for Proton and therefore it really can be slow. As long as it is secure I opt for increasing speed.

Agreed that this is probably the most critical issue. The Android app takes close to a minute to load any email, basically rendering it useless. The only good thing is that you can quickly action emails from the notifications.

I agree it's the main issue with proton services (and it's a very discouraging one for those who want to fully quit gmail &co)

I am TRYING to get a time sensitive email - it comes in daily and the service is so slow it arrives 15 to 20 minutes after I get the text confirmation that it's been sent. What gives with this!!!

Also load times & the general responsiveness isn't good

taking far too much time to login, if in fact login will ever appear

Yes, I believe that will indeed be the reaction of the public in the long run. When one signs up for Proton Mail, the web page fails to disclose honestly that it takes more than 100 times to receive an e-mail than it takes other e-mail suppliers, perhaps 1000 times if a photo is involved. These numbers are not exaggeration!
Yes, in exchange for security, we must endure massive delays.
The delays, plus the sign-up-page dishonesty and the consequent feeling in customers of having been cheated or lied to (lie of omission), will eventually cause the company to fail. Unless they cure this problem, they will have no job in two years, I am certain.

Deleting trash has a max of 50 emails at a time. Why?

On web interface, navigating between messages and folders is not slow, though it's not instant. This makes navigation slower overall. Gmail is faster.
At least, navigating between messages in same folder & thread should be instant.
This would be my main complaint about Protonmail.
I'm using Firefox but in Chrome, there isn't much difference.

I don't have a ton of email in my archive yet, but so far Proton seems massively faster than google's Inbox app. I'm always in favor of optimization, but I just don't see any need for it yet.

If you'd rather let the NSA read your email then what on earth are you doing on ProtonMail?

I have a very old PC, not slow at all.

People using the argument "lol, buy a new computer ololololol" forget that security should not be made inconvenient for people with less money.
I am happy for everyone who has a good machine and can run proton smoothless, but from a developer point of view, protonmail IS slower compared to other providers and it's NOT because of the security/encryption ProtonMail deploys.
There should be at least a light weight option for user who experience problems.

yes it is need, but just deal with it, their could many reason why it is happening. I am aware with it, and yes it is slow , but I don't mind. the reason I could say deal with it, it could be your computer also, and not just proton. many of use are just fine with it, so it could be many issues.

Searching isn’t just slow for me, it often doesn’t return results for emails I know exist with the keywords I’m using. A lot of work needs to be done in this area.

Time is what you pay for the added security of encrypted mail.
