Auto-Delete for Trash & Spam
Auto-Delete For Trash Folder

Other email services like tutanota automatically clear the trash

Would be great to have choice to select own frequency of deletions in spam and trash individually

It is time that you let the users determine their own frequency automation of anything (deletions, savings, moving, etc.) of data including (trash, spam, folders, etc.). Your static (30 day) automation is useless. This is email system is nice but does not meeting expectations for the cost of it.

The feature currently has a single enable setting for both trash and spam, but I can't think of any good reason these two should be behind the same flag. I want my trash to auto-delete fairly aggressively, as if I put something in the trash it is intentional. Spam on the other hand I go through periodically to make sure I don't have any real emails in there, and I don't want it to ever auto-delete.
The current tools make it fairly easy for me to quickly go through my spam folder once every month or two, but I can't enable this auto-delete feature for trash which is frustrating.

I thought about upgrading but two things prevent it, VPN doesn't do torrent and mail sux at dealing with spam.

Completely agree with the need of a spam & trash manual setting for auto-deletion. A wide range of timing would be greatly appreciated. For example, I would like to be able to change a setting that allows the auto-deletion of spam in seven days.

Allowing the user to specify the number of days in settings would be helpful. 30 days is arbitrary, and users may want different time periods. For example, I'm comfortable with 120 day auto-delete. I actually trash more emails knowing I can reference them 60 days later if needed, but I also know I won't need them in 6 months.

What has been the delay?

I would also like this implemented.

As an addition to this. I would love if the delete all, and move all to trash buttons were not automatically hidden in the user interface. I just want to go into the SPAM folder, glance at what's there, then hit delete all.

Hopefully this is available soon.

I thought sure I had read (somewhere) that there was an automatic deletion of trash after 30 days -- clearly that is not the case. I am dumbfounded that in 2023 this is still even a post and wasn't implemented a long, long, LONG time ago. Sheesh...

Surely, at the scale proton is operating, this would have a huge cost saving for them by not having all these emails just left there indefinitely in trash.

As others have posted, would like to see Trash auto deleted after xx days.

I was quite surprised to find I had over 17,000 messages in the trash. Deleting 50 at a time has taken hours. And no, I do not want to delete them all at once. I like to keep them for 90 days. This and the inability to sort folders by sender (I know if I have the spelling for every sender I can individually search but that is very time consuming too).

Really, really needs a setting for "delete after x days". I don't want to delete the whole thing, and I don't want to keep trash from 2019.

Really this is pretty basis stuff and not done anything since 2015

Yes, please add an option to auto purge deleted messages after a certain number of days (i.e. 30, 90 and 180).

I have been using ProtonMail for quite a while now, but only found out now that it does not automatically remove message from the bin after 30 days. I feel this is basic functionality that every e-mail solution should have. If I put it in the bin, I want to get rid of it. Having it in there for 30 days in case I delete something by mistake is only a nice service, but it should end up being removed completely.
