Select country on free plan
I want to be able to select the country at least, I don't care if I cant choose the server or not, but its annoying having to connect to a place on the other side of the world. I most likely will stop using this VPN if this is not added back.
With the free plan changes made at the end of 2023, we aim to provide optimal speeds and latency to everyone using our free, unlimited, ad-free VPN. Although you can't select a specific server, you can change the server that was initially assigned to you.

To improve Proton VPN, focusing on enhancing server speeds, expanding server locations, and refining the user interface for easier navigation could make a significant difference. Offering more customization options for advanced users and increasing transparency with real-time server status updates would also enhance the user experience. Additionally, improving customer support responsiveness and providing more educational resources on privacy and security could build even more trust among users. https://firekirinus.xyz/

Proton VPN can be improved by enhancing server speeds, expanding server locations, and optimizing the app for better performance on mobile devices. Additionally, offering more flexible pricing plans and improving customer support would help attract a broader user base. Regular updates and advanced features like split tunneling or dedicated IP addresses could further enhance its appeal. https://citymarkettarjoukset.fi/

Can everyone here just do yourselves a favor, and google what VPN's stands for. I'll help. Virtual Private Network. That is what proton is giving you for "free". Nothing more nothing less.
I put free in quotations above for an EXTREMELY good reason. Because it is free to YOU. Proton eats those costs to provide a valuable privacy tool to those of you that can't afford it. NOT so those of you fortunate enough to travel to other countries can connect to your bank to access your riches through a service you're to stingy to compensate. NOT so that you can watch tv programs from another country you don't live in for free, etc.
I am in no way speaking on behalf of proton, but I am fully confident they would agree with my following statement. If you don't like the fact that the service provided to you for free, no longer gives you access to premium features you can purchase plans for VPN plus that break down to as little as US$4.99/m if you're willing to purchase 2 years of service up front. US$9.99/m if you would rather pay monthly. Or even better you do what I did, and save money by replacing the icloud/ google drive/ etc. subscription you probably have no problem paying for with protons unlimited plan. Which also comes with encrypted email, cloud storage, calendars, and password manager in addition to the VPN. ALL of which are IMO superior, and just take payment from you. Not through also selling all of the data they steal from you to anyone that wants to buy it.
Again I'm not speaking on behalf of proton, but If that still sounds to you like a slimy (non profit) company taking away features that the VPN useless (completely untrue) then you simply do not in the slightest understand what you are demanding. You are not hurting Proton by choosing to use a different provider, you are actually helping them by reducing load on the servers they pay for, so people using them for the purpose they intended them to be used for can be provided a better experience at a lower cost to proton. Allowing them to use the money saved to continue working towards mission to build a better internet that serves the interests of all of society.
To those of you that read this entire reply, you should see this as a great change. You should also see their services for what they are, an absolute steal. The very minimal extra you spend on protons services over the competitors is not only justified by the simple fact that your data is not being hoarded, and immorally sold for a massive profit at your expense. It goes towards investing in technology that will continue to make the internet more private, secure, and accessible to all. Last, but definitely not least... Learn some respect. You don't have to support proton by using, and paying for their services. But they most certainly do not owe a single one of you ungrateful twits a single thing that was demanded from you. Nothing in life is free, but they're paying for the privacy of those that cant. Not for the luxury's of those that can. That deserves praise, and respect.

Fast data transmission and strong privacy protections can definitely improve the experience and reduce delays. If you would like to share https://nullsbrawls.org/ this feedback or recommend Proton VPN to others. Highlighting how to make your gaming session smoother and more secure can be very helpful. Do you have any specific qualities that you admire?…

In countries like Iran where the internet is restricted, all servers don't work, and that's why every time I want to connect to a VPN, I have to hit connect and press the Change button every few seconds to get it to connect.

Stop using it then, it's already kind enough of them to have this generous free tier.
You'll be back un no time, as other free providers just does not work. -

The Proton VPN free plan is anything BUT generous at this point. As I said in my earlier comment, restrictions on free users are fair but not when they're things like this. I got an account banned because it connected me to a different country than the one I lived in. That's not cool at all. This change significantly harmed my love and trust for Proton. They're doing it to themselves, too. It'd be as simple as them adding the ability to pick which services we subscribe to instead of this stupid all-or-nothing policy where you either subscribe to ONE service or all of them.

Dude, you already get a LOT by using the Proton generous free plan. So consider upgrading to a paid plan if you actually need this.
There are a bunch of "free" VPNs that are risky and where you are the product. Maybe those have the feature you are asking for. Or don't use a VPN at all.

Man, as a paid user I lost most of features also. I hate what they did.

As a free plan user, I even asked my friend for the old version of ProtonVPN so that I could select the countries. Although the old version only has three countries to select, it is still better than the new version.

I disagree with a majority of these comments. I can't think of a single privacy centric VPN that even allows a free trial on their fastest servers. I can only think of Tunnelbear, which isn't good, and you get like 500mb of their fast servers that they pick for you. Privacy isn't free, just like freedom.
If you want to test the speed, shell out $10. You get what you pay for and there are privacy centric payment methods. If you can't afford that, head over to Mullvad (no free trial period) or iVPN (no free trial period). Both of them are like $5 and my only other VPNS that I use.
If you're wondering about the speeds:
On US servers with about 1gig speeds at home I tend to get around 20mbps, which is not the best but not the worst and since it is included with my Proton suite I use it. Fine enough to stream and download and have been with slower providers. For the privacy and everything else bundled in, I'll take it. -

Really slimy, removing this option for free users when it is the main VPN use case. I expected better from Proton.
