I wouldn't have a problem paying for the premium if I didn't have to give up my existing subscription to do so. I can't afford Ultimate right now, so I literally have to choose between a functional VPN or my core password manager and the many aliases I've set up so far... not cool. Limitations on the free version are 100% fair but not when it's like this, especially since running on a VPN server in a different country can get accounts locked or banned, as was the case for my Microsoft Rewards account, since I didn't realize I was connected to a server in another country.
Please reconsider this change, Proton. Again, limiting us free users is fair but not to this extent. It makes me want to switch to a competitor, which is saying a lot because I'm a huge Proton fan.

An error occurred while saving the comment Jacob commentedAbsolutely! Nostr is great and there are plenty of people who have ditched social media entirely except for Nostr (though I'm not one of those people). It'd be great since it stands in line with Proton's mission of guarding privacy and freedom online.

An error occurred while saving the comment Jacob commentedCrucial for me. I'd love to get Unlimited since I do use all of their services but I can't afford it at this point in time. However, with the recent (unfair) VPN change, I need to subscribe but I can't do that since I have a Proton Pass subscription and I refuse to drop it just to use a VPN; I'd rather find a competitor if I have to do that.
That said, if we get the option to customize our plan, I'd be more than happy to subscribe to Proton VPN, so yes: a critical feature for me.

An error occurred while saving the comment Jacob commentedThis is critical for me. I don't think there should be a limit even on 100% free accounts but even so, I've had so many times where I had to sign into my PC just to use an email magic link/2FA code because an account is linked to a different address. I keep my emails compartmentalized, even with my Proton Pass aliases, as I like to keep it organized. I have my main which uses my Proton Pass aliases, but I also have an account dedicated to media and game platforms, as well as an account specific to payment and online shopping platforms.
Not being able to access all of those on mobile is very, very irritating.

The Proton VPN free plan is anything BUT generous at this point. As I said in my earlier comment, restrictions on free users are fair but not when they're things like this. I got an account banned because it connected me to a different country than the one I lived in. That's not cool at all. This change significantly harmed my love and trust for Proton. They're doing it to themselves, too. It'd be as simple as them adding the ability to pick which services we subscribe to instead of this stupid all-or-nothing policy where you either subscribe to ONE service or all of them.
